- Humans hear many sounds during their daily life and unconsciously do not remember some of them. Also a person can hear what another person is saying, but may feel either bored with the conversation or are too into themselves to care what the person is saying so they hear, but not listen and do not absorb any of the information.

Hearing is simply the act of perceiving sound by the ear. If you are not hearing-impaired, hearing simply happens. Listening, however, is something you consciously choose to do. Listening requires concentration so that your brain processes meaning from words and sentences. Listening leads to learning.
Most people tend to be "hard of listening" rather than "hard of hearing."

∙ 9y agoThere is a big distinction between the words hear and listen. To hear something requires no intention on the part of the person hearing something. To listen however, requires the person to be actively paying attention in order to comprehend what they are hearing.
