Other than the fact that both countries citizens are asian, essentially everything is different.

For example Japan is a first world constitutional monarchy (democracy), where North Korea is a third world communist Dictatorship.

Japan's people are free to pursue their education, interests, and careers of choice, while North Korea's are snatched away and imprisoned to be used as slave labour for any indiscretions (real or imagined).
