People in France speak French. It is a Latin-based language, like Spanish, but they are still different and you cannot expect to be understood in France speaking Spanish, or in Spain speaking French.

As a second language, Spanish is taught in French schools but comes second to English.

France has only one official language which is French. It is the mandatory language in schooling, although some regional languages like Basque, Catalan, Alsatian have achieved a 'locally recognized' status.

The non-French speaking population is made up of recent immigrants. A few years ago the largest immigrant community in France was the Portuguese one, but speaking Portuguese outside the family circle becomes somewhat rare. Arabic may be the first foreign language spoken here regarding the number of people of North-African descent speaking the Morroccan or Algerian varieties of Arabic. Regarding foreign languages taught at school, English is the most popular, with Spanish a distant second.

Yep, we do.

We've got a lot of good french songs, but, I keep enjoying much the English ones. I'm just keen on that language, and that's -most of the time- a real pleasure for ears.

But, some of my relatives don't listen to other songs than the one they understand pretty much. It means not the English ones. ^^

It doesn't matter what language you born in. Your thoughts will be in your native language. But when you change languages, you will think in the more dominate one.
