A Magnetic Levitation or MagLev train can travel at a higher rate of speed than a normal train because the train does not make contact with solid material. It is suspended above the guideway by magnetic repulsion and only has the friction of air and inertia as a resistance to movement. The speed of the train is regulated by the frequency of the power applied to the magnets of the linear motor composed of the electromagnets on the train and in the guideway.

Considerably more.
Consider the track - it's not a track but a linear motor ... The Entire Length Of The Railroad! How much copper does that take?
And operation. You not only have to move the cars, but you have to hold them up as well. You thought that was free?

better?

if a helicopter is better than a fixed wing airplane

Yesit takes power to keep a mag lev train up

i takes power to keep a helicopter up

mag lev trains can go faster but cant carry as big a load

in both the bigger the load the more power to just get it off the ground

Of course it does! High voltage electricity is used to excite the electromagnets, allowing the Maglev to move in both directions. Conventional electric railways vary pretty widely in voltage depending on the region, and year built, but most systems use less electric power than a Mag-Lev.

It can and it can't.
It's advantage is the lack of rolling friction (no wheels)
but air resistance still applies.
When "high speed trains" went 100 mph then mag-lev looked real speedy,
but with High-speed rain now pushing 250 mph, mag-lev is only slightly faster.
(And don't forget, mag-lev uses a lot more energy.)

Is an electric train faster then a steam one?

a electric train is faster than a steam engine

Why didn't they complete a maglev train in the UScities?

It's all to do with magnetic repulsion - when the train is moving, the two magnets have the same pole, and so repel each other, creating a "cushion". It's a bit like the principle of two bar magnets in school, matching north pole to north pole.

What are the advantages to the maglev train?

MagLev (or magnetic levitation) trains have no moving parts and therefore need much less maintenance and are nearly silent. They run on superconducting magnets and don't require all of the fuel that current trains do and reduce the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere. The superconducting magnets are run alongside each other. This would mean that for the train to stop running both magnets would have to fail in the time it would take the train to reach the next stopping point which is only a few minutes. The probability of this happening would be less than once in millions of years of operation. And I like the way it looks!!!!!!!!! The electromagnets that are used in the train are easily turned of so there will be hardly and chance of missing your stop. They also go 359mph. Three times the speed of an average car.it also has less friction henrymeadstinks.

What is the max safe speed for a maglev train today?

Maglev trains are among the safest rapid transit systems in the world. The speed and distance among Maglev vehicles are automatically controlled by the frequency of the electric power fed to the guideway, thus possible collisions are eliminated.

What is faster than a car?

train, airplane.

Why do people travel on airplane?

To get to distant places faster than you would by car or train.

Why maglev train is faster than ordinary train?

Because there's no friction between the train and the track. In an 'ordinary' train, friction between the wheels and the rails takes a lot of energy to overcome before the train starts moving. In a Maglev train, the train itself actually 'floats' above the track on a 'cushion' of magnetic foirce. With no friction to slow it down, the train is capable of much higher speeds.

What is faster a train or a airplane?

Planes, on average, are faster than trains. With most planes traveling at 400 to 500mph while even the fastest conventional train in regular operation only goes 200mph

Is maglev train environment-friendly?

You can say yes, because it run on electricity and it has no friction other than air resistance, but it isn't so simple. There is constant need for energy to keep train levitating so energy consumption is not lower than high speed train and if speed is low conventional high speed train may win in energy consumption. But if you compare maglev to aircraft, maglev would definitly would win. Maglev tracks are extremly expensive, there is only one Maglev build for regular passengers, between airport and city center in Shanghai. There is doubt if it could be economical to operate and even maglevs aren´t much faster than conventional high speed trains. France TGV record is 571 km/h, but japanese Maglev record is only 581 km/h and this isn't big difference.
