The original sources of the Robin Hood legend are ballads composed before 1450. I base my novel The Robin Hood Chronicles on these ballads. They refer to a King Edward, who visits Robin in Yorkshire. The only King Edward who was in Yorkshire was Edward II, who was there in 1323. In the Ballad King Edward makes Robin one of his yeomen. There is a Robyn Hod listed among the servants of Edward II in 1323. This Robyn Hod had a wife named Mathilda. Maid Marian did not enter the Robin Hood legend for another 300 years. So the answer to the question is: If we are talking about a historical Robin Hood, he did not marry Maid Marian.

However, Maid Marion was later added to add more romance to the story of Robin Hood.
