They are deciduous however they retain the dead leaves on the branches through the winter until they are pushed off by new shoots in the spring time.

No, It's a deciduous. Evergreen means it survives through the whole year round. The clue is in its name! Ever-green! Deciduous means it drops its leaves in Autumm.
