Like most bears, polar bears are solitary animals. The moms and dads get together to mate, and the mothers care for their young until they are old enough to live on their own. Otherwise, they live separately. Why? Predators usually have territories that are big enough to feed themselves, but not others. You don't wander into another bear's territory unless you want a big fight on your paws!
