EDIT New Life Spectrum is the best i have found anywhere for cichlid food.
DO NOT FEED AFRICAN RIFT LAKE CICHLIDS BLOOD WORMS. It can easily lead to bloating and death.

∙ 14y agoDepending upon species cichlids can be vegetarian eating only algae, others carnivorous and mainly eat other fish, some are insectivors and prey on insects and their larvae and still others are omnivorous.

∙ 11y agoCichlids will do the best eating something like New Life Spectrum (also you may see it listed as NLS). It can be a little bit more expensive than the crappy flake food, but if you want to see good color and health go with NLS. ALSO!! NLS provides alot of food per purchase.. so you dont get robbed on quantity.

∙ 12y agoyes. little f-ers will attack you to when you try to clean the tank.. I've never had one draw blood, but if you tried, I'm sure they could. I had a brevis once, and the male would always attack me when cleaning the tank.. that fish had 2 FANGS that are on the bottom---that hurt!
