No. not necessarily. It sort of depends what you mean by soundproof. If you are trying to block noise from coming in or going out, then they aren't particularly great for that. they will block sound about as much as putting anything up on the wall (regular blanket for instance). they ARE however, good at diffusing sound. Which is good if you are recording and need to cut the acoustics down to a tolerable level for quality.

What can you put in your sheet rock so it will become soundproof?

Since sheet rock is already manufactured, there is nothing to "put in" it. To soundproof on interior walls the best solution is to add insulation between the stud walls--usually rolled insulation works best, is relatively cheap and will not shrink the room size.

How does an egg soundproof?

There is much controversy about whether using real egg cartons on the walls will soundproof a room. Garage bands with little money insist that this cheap form of soundproofing does Answers.com. There is soundproofing egg carton foam that is made and can be purchased in sheets to insulate walls--this method is definitely more effective than using the actual cardboard egg cartons. It is also more costly. If you need to soundproof a room for little to no money, you might as well try the egg carton method yourself--it can't be worse than bare walls. Once installed, see if the resulting soundproofing is myth or fact.

How do you soundproof a dorm?

The problem with soundproofing a dorm is that you can't do anything permanent or else you'll end up paying a fine when you leave the dorm. The easiest solution is to simply move your furniture around so that it is in a position to absorb sound. You could enhance this effect by hanging heavy drapes or curtains over all of your walls. If you'd really like to soundproof your dorm you could get some acoustical panels or mass loaded vinyl and hang it over your walls. You could probably do this with minimal adhesive, making it easy for you to remove the material and patch up the paintwork before you move out.
