Yes, the rate at which a goldfish grows, and its overall size, is often partially determined by its environment. This is why pond goldfish are considerably larger than aquarium goldfish, and why goldfish that are cramped-up in bowls stay relatively small. If you want your goldfish to grow into large healthy fish you'll buy them a large aquarium or pond to live in.

If a goldfish was set free in the wild it would not grow very large because goldfish are not wild animals and would soon be eaten by a predator- or would die from improper water quality/temperatures. However, goldfish have been known to grow very large if they are allowed to live in a large pond(away from predators). Some fancy goldfish can get up to 10 inches -such as the lionhead goldfish. Comet goldfish have been known to get well over 12 inches. And koi, a close cousin of the common goldfish, can grow over two feet!

How big will goldfish grow in a 70 gallon tank?

How big should a goldfish get?

It depends on how big your tank is.The bigger the fishtank, the bigger the fish will grow. Not only does it matter how big your tank/pond is but it also depends greatly on what the fish is fed, the variety of the fish, and the fishes genetics. Many goldfish can grow over a foot long- here is a list of standard sizes to expect a goldfish to grow:pond goldfish like comets, shubunkins, and wakins can grow well over 12inchesfancier varieties like ranchus, lionhead, and orandas can grow over 10 inchesother fancy varieties like ryukins, black moors, fantails, etc. can grow over 6-7 inchesThe largest goldfish recorded is over 16 inchesBy feeding your goldfish a varied diet, giving them plenty of room to grow, and by buying goldfish from only a healthy stock you can ensure that your goldfish will grow to a healthy and favorable size. Most goldfish will make around a 10 inch fish if it is reasonably housed and looked after. if the envorment allow it they only grow as big there envorment alows Goldfish may grow to a maximum length of 23 inches (59 cm) and a maximum weight of 9.9 pounds (4.5 kg), although this is rare; most individual goldfish grow to under half this size. In optimal conditions, goldfish may live more than 40 years[2]; however, most household goldfish generally only live six to eight years.Common Goldfish can reach a size over a foot, depending on the size of the aquarium.

How fast do goldfish grow?

Goldfish can get VERY big. Actually, they naturally never stop growing. They can even get up to 3 feet. You may find this hard to believe, but this is because most goldfish's growths are stunted because of small tanks. Sometimes they adapt to the tank size and only grow if put in a bigger tank but this is rare. If a goldfish is given a healthy, natural life, they will continue to live and grow. The record for oldest fish is about 49 years. The person above me is very right. Goldfish usually don't reach their full length because they die (cuz of small tanks, over feeding, and any other abuse) before they can. They never stop growing but their growing starts to slow down after a while. That's why it's 20 gallons for one goldfish and another 10 gallons for additional goldfish (3 large fancy goldfish in a 50 gal). The two people above me are partially right. There is no record of any goldfish reaching 3 feet, only koi can attain a length that big. Goldfish are also capable of growing to their adult size (12 - 14 inches) in a 10 gallon tank as long as you keep the tank clean, warm and you put the goldfish on a varied diet. Although, since goldfish can grow big and produce a lot of waste, it is best that you move them to a bigger tank once they grow-out their old one.According to experts, an ordinary or common goldfish will grow up to 26 inches while koi carps will grow and weigh up to 90 lbs.REALLY REALLY BIG, of course depending on the tank size, if put in a big tank they can reach the size of a koiThey can live to the age of 45 if in clean conditions. They can get as large as 10'', but if they have descendants of a large fish such as a koi it can grow as large as a koi. The goldfish also grows with the tank as you give it bigger ones. I have a comet goldfish who is half that has lots of koi in him and a little bit of goldfish,he is 2 years old.It will grow to the size of the tank you might have you see the big gold fish in the shop what r about 5-7 ich long

How big can a goldfish be?

The maximum size of a fully grown common goldfish is almost two feet (60 cm) in length and weighing close to ten pounds (4.5kg). Most goldfish won't grow that large but can easily grow to around 12 inches (30cm) and weighing five ponds (2.25kg). A goldfish will never grow to its potential if it is placed in tank too small or in less than ideal water conditions.

Goldfish grow extremely large; fancies will become fatter, and singletails grow quite long. You should only have 2 fancies in a 30 gallon, or one singletail for proper health and growth.
