There is an available bypass kit, but the belt is the same. You remove the ac compressor and install an idler pulley.
You will not be able to route a different belt without the compressor even if you use a shorter belt but you can sometimes get what is called a "bypass" pulley for some of the models but I would need to know the year and engine size to see if one is available.......
If it is a 5.0L engine to my knowledge it can't be done. No bypass pulley is made for this engine. If you try to use a non-A/C belt, or simply a shorter belt it will approach the tensioner at an angle that won't let the tensioner apply pressure. The belt will just flop around. If you find a way I would be happy to know about it. I would like to do the same, but no luck. -Mark
If the belt screeches when you turn at low engine rpm you need to change it. This separate steering belt is on the 2.4 Caravan, 1996-2000. - On all other models it's driven by the serpentine belt.
you can not use a shorter belt because it will cause the waater pump to run in reverse . ask your local parts store for an a/c puley and bracket assembly [about 40 bucks]
i am looking for an answer to this question myself. i cant seem to find a place that makes the bypass pulleys for the 3.5 liter g6. im also not sure if u can just reroute a shorter belt, as there may be another pulley in the way. if i figure it out i ll repost. if u find the answer yourself, please let me know with a repost
Every 15,000 miles, when the belt shows obvious signs of wear such as missing teeth, or when it is dry or has excessive cracks.
boooooooooooooooooooooooo
It could. You need to have the system scanned for codes to know for sure.
You'll need to go to your local car parts dealer and ask them for a printout for your serpentine belt route. You'll need to know the year and type of car you have. Also, you'll need to know the size of your engine. I just changed mine on a 96 Caravan 3.8L. The diagram was on the flat painted area between the radiator and grill, facing up.
On a V6 it is the first cylinder (closest to the belt) on the front head (closest to the radiator). On a V6 it is the first cylinder (closest to the belt) on the front head (closest to the radiator).
I know on my cavalier which is a 2001 it is possible to re route the serpentine belt away from the air conditioner compressor. I was having trouble with mine popping the belt off. Hope I helped you out.
