Hi I have used peppermint oil for a year now to keep fiel mice away. They come up from the basement to the main house every August for some reason. By diluting 2 table spoons of peppermint oil with 2 cups of water in a spray bottle, and spraying all the areas nice use to come into the house, I have been able to keep them away. I read in many postings that mice get actually sick by the scent of peppermint, thus they avoid getting anywhere near. They recommend once every 2 weeks spray to keep them away, but if you are deailing with an infestation, I have used it once every 2 days. Plus the whole area smells very nice.

Rat catchers use peppermint oil soaked rags to fill the rat holes. They then put down weasels down the remaining holes and catch the rats in nets. The oil will also deter cockroaches and mice from the vicinity.

Lots of things. But please don't use poison. Find any other way but don't harm they be vermin but they are creatures and they don't really carry diseases anymore. Also, if you are discussing a garage or outside building, good old fashioned cats are really the best deterrent. It appears that peppermint oil, not peppermint extract, works better to get rid of mice. This is because the extract contains more alcohol than peppermint oil, so it will not be as strong as the oil itself.
