Parrots live on all tropical and subtropical continents. This includes Australia and the islands of the Pacific Ocean, North and South America, South Asia, southeast Asia and Africa, and within these area, parrots can be found in the rainforests.

Parrots live in a variety of habitats. In Australia, they can be found from the desert regions, where mulga parrots and budgerigars live; the coasts, where an assortment of rosellas, lorikeets, cockatoos are found; bushland, where almost any type of parrot is found; and the rainforests, where a more limited variety are found. In South America, parrots tend to be more common in rainforest areas.
