People are swimming in the arctic, so why not in the Mediterranean.
There are of course dangers.
In the arctic, the cold would be.... lethal.... if exposed for too long.
In the Mediterranean Sea, there are some sharks and other nice living things searching for food.
All things taken into consideration and I would still prefer the warmer water in the Mediterranean sea.
There is nothing wrong in swimming there, but one should always pay attention to dangers wherever you are.
