Some churches ban or try to avoid having BOTH funerals and weddings on Sundays! The reason is simple (traffic control) - There is a regular block of Masses on sundays and other church services would interrupt this divine stream. In the Catholic Church this is common. Weddings are often performed on Saturday Afternoons- primarily to avoid any traffic problems with the normal schedule of masses. Traffic control and management, not abstruse theology, is the reason usually given. also- it is not permissible to be Married in the church on or near certain church seasons ( such as Lent) or holidays such as Christmas including the Season ( up to Epiphany) it is again based on a traffic-control argument.

Ordinarily this is NOt done for traffic-control reasons, it conflicts with regularily scheduled Masses ( in the Catholic church) likewise, weddings are normally not held on Sundays either..
