Do people of all religions have a connection with their god in the same way as a Christian?

There are many religions but only one God, so you can never be sure which religion teaches the truth about God, religion is therefore is not a way to know God. For someone to really know God, God must reveal Himself to that person in a way that would convince him beyond a shadow of a doubt. For you to be able to tell if your friend really knows the one true God, you must first find God and then compare your knowledge of God to that of your friend, and that is a lifelong quest, not something that can be answered by a simple "yes" or "no".

To answer the second part of your question, I have to say - definitely no, the simple reason is that we all share same experience of the creation around us, we see same sun, same trees, same animals etc. So then if we are all part of the same creation, there can only be one Creator and there are just to many conflicting teachings in most major religions about who of what God is, for all of them to be referring to the same God.

John Dominic Crossan (The Birth of Christianity) sees something arrogant in the Christian assumption that only their religion is true. He says that it is not morally acceptable to say directly and openly that our story is truth but yours is myth; ours is history but yours is lie. Each believer 'knows' that his religion is true, whatever that religion is. Each believer has a connection with his or her god, whoever that god is. The experience felt by a Christian during worship is no more real than, say, the expeience of a Hindu during worship.
