Yes, people do it all the time! However, if you are not comfortable in traveling to a country where you don't know the language, I would suggest purchasing a translation book for that particular language. The books have the words and phrases listed in English (or which ever language you choose) in alphabetical order, then have that country's language version right beside the Enlish version. You can also use an app on your phone, tablet or iPad for the same purpose. I prefer using Bing Translator; it's a pretty good one and it's free. All you do is type in what you want to say, then select the language you want it translated to, and it's done instantly!
