if you want a proper and accurate reading you need to check the oil with the end off and cold. the best time to check is in the morning before you go anywhere that way it has sat overnight and cooled off and settled back into the pan. if it's hot (recently run) not all the oil will be in the pan which can cause you to get a low reading when really it's at an ok level :-)

no you check your oil with car off easier when car is cooled off
Check the oil level with the engine off after it has not been run for 30 minutes. You will then get a very accurate reading.
It means low oil pressure. Or you have no pressure which means you may not have any oil in your car. STOP immediately, turn your car off. check oil to see if you have any.
on some cars it means it has a bad oil pressure sensor
You might have an oil leak that gets on to the exhaust manifold. Check the gasket around the upper part of the engine.
You can check the motor oil or the transmission fluid.
There are usually two oil lights; yellow for low oil level, and red for low oil pressure. Yours is most likely yellow, indicating your oil levels are low. It turns off when the car is moving because it's not low enough to register when the car's moving, as oil is moving through the engine, and the sensor is in the oil pan. You most likely have an oil leak or your car is burning oil; you just need to check the oil level at least 10 minutes after turning off the car, and add oil as needed. If it's at the lowest level on the oil dipstick, adding half a quart will do it.
did u try to check your oil level? if so...try to reset it, using the manual.....ignite the car with engine off...bury the throttle it shld reset did u try to check your oil level? if so...try to reset it, using the manual.....ignite the car with engine off...bury the throttle it shld reset
check the oil before you start you car, if its low on the stick and it in to add line add a quart of oil. And check to see if you have a puddle under the engine of the car. If you do open the hood a check the left side of the engine to see if there any oil drops on the ac comp top, if there is the timing gasget need to be replace.
Your car will not overheat because you still got water in it. You might want to check your oil. The light indicate that the car is either low or out of lubricating oil, please do not run your car yet, check and add oil first.
no old oil will not stop a car beacause at least the car has oil
If it is the message center telling you to check the oil; look in the owner's manual and there are steps on how to turn it off through the radio. For most impala 2000 and up... turn key ignition to ON but do not start the car. pump gas pedal 3 times fast. then turn car off. now start the car. light should clear. hopefully you've changed the oil first though.
