Of course you do ... signing away your "rights" only means that you do not wish to have any visitation or custodial responsibilities. You still are financially responsibly for that child and his/her upbringing. After all, they are your children, too ... takes two to make kids, ya know!

You need to see a lawyer! Find "legal aid" in Tennessee; they offer free or low-cost legal services.

Basically, if you are signing away parental rights because you're not interested in the child and don't want to pay money for him/her, you're probably pretty much out luck.

If you are signing away parental rights because the baby's mother has a husband who wants to adopt your child, then you will be free of future financial obligation once your rights are relinquished. (You will still be liable for past financial obligations you have not met.)

Yes, if you are the biological parent and the child hasn't been legally adopted by someone else, you will owe child support. Voluntarily relinquishing your parental rights does not excuse you from having to pay child support.

Yes. Termination of parental rights does not absolve support obligations unless the child is being adopted.

If you give away parental rights do you have to pay child support?

Yes, you are STILL the person responsible for bringing the child into the world. You need to support them. The laws vary from state to state on parental rights and child support,So signing away your parental rights may not relieve you from paying child support.. However if one parent wants the other parent to sign away their parental rights, they can come to a legal aggreement that if the parent signs away their rights then the other parent will cancel any current child support and will not seek support for that child in the future, this of course must be done through the courts...

If parental rights are taken away do you still have to pay child support in the state of Maine?

Can an illegal immigrant mother receive child support if she leaves country and father gives up all rights?

If the father Legally gave up his parental rights - (signed legal papers), then he is no longer legally responsible to pay child support for the child. Did he give up parental rights so you could remove the child from the country? A family member of mine had to have her baby's father sign away his parental rights so he would not have to pay child support when he entered the military. So - once parental rights are signed away Legally, the father has NO obligation to pay child support. You cannot have it both ways - you cannot have him sign away his parental rights, yet still expect him to pay child support.

You live in GA and your brother wants to sign away his parental rights does he still have to pay child support?

No. Relinquishing your parental rights means you are not the parent of the child any longer, therefore not responsible for its care and/or support.

Does SC allow the non custodial parents sign away rights if the pay child support?

The right to sign away your parental rights is not based on child support. Unless the child is being adopted the child support will still have to be paid whether you voluntarily give up your rights or not.

Can a man sign away his rights if he is paying child support and the child is still being kept from him?

In general, parental rights are terminated either preparatory to an adoption, or after a trial in which it is determined that the parent is unfit. In any case, termination of parental rights does not, in itself, terminate child support.
