∙ 13y agoNo the only cost that would be extra is if you need to purchase a router, ethernet cable, wireless modem or something to allow the initial connection with the PS3. Since I already had cable internet without WiFi I had to purchase a wireless router to allow connection with the PS3. When I didn't like the WiFi connection I purchased an ethernet cable to connect the PS3 to the Wireless router and never had any other additional expenses. If you do not already have internet the PS3 does not include an internet service and you must purchase that and pay a monthly fee for internet service.

∙ 13y agoYes you do need an internet connection to play online on PS3. If you have an internet connection you can hook up your PS3 using an Ethernet cable. You must make sure that the cable is in fact an Ethernet cable before plugging it in to avoid damage to your PS3 system.

∙ 12y agoYes what is free is the site the Playstation Network. PS3 does not give you the internet anymore than you get the internet with a laptop or PC or the Xbox 360. What PS3 does it not charge to use the Playstation Network that they upgraded to the latest hardware just last summer after they were hacked.
They do charge for a service called Playstation Plus that gives you free games every month for as long as you are a member and this service has other benefits besides like automatic updates of the system and your games and a monthly selection of discounted games that are yours forever. But you don't need the service to play Playstation Home or online games or to browse the internet and the Playstation Plus is mainly a shoppers bonus for the Playstation Store.

a ps3 does not come with a wireless router It comes with the ability to connect to a wireless router or modem or with an ethernet cable. No other kind of internet connection to the PS3 is possible. For instance you would not be able to plug something into the USB port to use for an internet connection.
