Which test is necessary is normally determined by the college or university as part of their entrance requirements. Some will accept either one, others want one or the other. Check the schools you are interested in and see what they require.
Of course, doing this by what is required is perfectly fine, I do suggest you study up and take both tests, it not only looks good on your college application, it is also good for educational purposes.

∙ 14y agoUsually you do not need to take the SAT or ACT for community college. The only way to be sure is to go to the website of the community college you are looking at and check their admission requirements.

∙ 11y agoYou only need to take it if you want to get into a college or university that is not a community college. It depends what college you want to go to, a good ACT score is a 30, but not many people score this, the average is about a 20 or 25, and a good SAT score is a 1500 is the average, and the highest is 2400. It all depends on what your college of choice requires, most Ivy League schools require higher than average scores, but you also need a good GPA.
