Yes and no... It is classified as a non-interference engine because if the timing belt were to break while driving the pistons will not hit and damage the valves. However, with the dual overhead cam it is possible that the valves from the intake can strike the valves from the exhaust, and vise versa. This has been known to happen, although typically only seen if the car was at high rpm when the belt broke.
