If you are a minor do you get federal taxes taken out of your paycheck?

Yes. At the same rates as anybody else. (There are some special treatments for children who work as household employees or who work for their own parents.) Of course, if you paycheck is very small and you fill out your W-4 properly, you may not have income taxes taken out because of the size of your check, not because of your age. You would still have Social Security and Medicare taxes taken out.

What is a Jackie Coogan Bank Account?

What is a Coogan Account? A "Coogan Trust Account" is a blocked trust account that is established at a qualified financial institution in California that is insured at all times by either the FDIC, SIPC or NCUSIF. Under California law, whenever a minor renders artistic services, employers are required to deposit 15% of gross earnings directly into the minor's "Coogan (blocked trust) Account". The monies placed in trust cannot be touched by anyone until the minor turns 18 or becomes legally emancipated. Parents or Legal Guardians are required to establish a "Coogan Trust Account" within seven business days after a minor's employment contract is signed, and to provide the minor's employer with a copy of a trustee's statement (evidencing proof of the account) within ten (10) business days after the start of employment.

Signatures for a minor child who files a tax return?

Minor children should sign their own tax return. If a child cannot sign his or her return, a parent or guardian can sign the child's name in the space provided at the bottom of the tax return followed by "By (signature), parent (or guardian) for minor child."

What are work permits for youths or teenagers?

The federal government does not require work permits or proof-of-age certificates for a minor to be employed. Many states, however, do require them for workers of certain ages. In addition to state labor departments, school guidance counselors might know if permits or proof-of-age certificates are required in that particular state. The Department of Labor will issue age certificates if the minor employee's state does not issue them, or if the minor is requested by his or her employer to provide one. However, the vast majority of age certificates are issued by states. The purpose of these certificates is to protect the employer from prosecution for employing an under-aged worker. The possession of an age certificate constitutes a good faith effort to comply with minimum age requirements. Some states require work permits or age certificates for young workers. In fact, most of the age certificates issued to young workers are issued by states. The fines for violation of this requirement can result in a monetary penalty for the employer. Consult your state department of labor for specific information on this issue. if you go to school go to your guidance conselor and they will give it to you Call your local Social Security office they will tell you where to obtain your permit in your town.
