Primark's cosmetics and toilettries are made by Swallowfield (see related link), who also make the products for Charles Worthington haircare. They did have a complete stop on any animal testing back in 2009 with a clause in the ethical policy
"b) There must not be any testing or commissioning of tests of finished products or raw
materials on animals."
This has now gone and been replaced by a section in their conditions and purchase policy
8 )All Goods must not have been tested on animals within the last five years
so they have gone to a 5yr rolling date similar to some other companies.

As far as I can tell ASDA does not have it's own brand of they simply sell a large variety of Because of this in all they do sell some products that are tested on animals however they probably also sell products that are not. The best way to find out if what you are was tested on animals is to look up the brand name. Caringconsumer.com provides a list of brands that don't test on animals as well as a list of those brands that do. This would be the best place to look to find out.
