I have left the previous answer intact at the end of this - however, it should be noted that the author clearly does not understand the technology in use and clearly did no research into their answer.
With regards to which uses more energy to display, it depends upon the type of monitor you are using.
CRT screens natively display black, and require an increase in Wattage in order to display colours. The closer to white, the higher the Wattage increase. The same is generally true of Plasma screens.
1st generation LCD screens were also natively displaying black and so acted the same way.
All current LCD screens natively show white and use additional power to darken the screen. Because of this, the more white there is on a page the less power all current day laptops (this is pretty much anything back to 1999/2000) and LCD monitors/televisions can require up to 6% more energy to display a black screen rather than a white screen.
What all this means is that of the two, Blackle will be marginally better (all be it nothing that is likely to be worth measuring) than Earthle. However, if you actually want to save energy on your modern computer - Google is better than either of them.

Earthle and Blackle are actually better for your computer to save energy, because it does no use nearly as much watts on you computer to make black compared to white.
Anyway back to the real question, Which one saves more energy. Off of my judgment I would say that I believe Earthle saves more energy, because instead of using white for the search answers, it uses green. Please remember this is my judgment and you are allowed to have your own. Just please don't be paranoid and say something about them just wanting to get money from you. It really doesn't matter which search you use money wise, they are all Google projects :)
