Unfortunately not. Read your policy well but more then likely not! I worked in two different insurance companies and water damage was a very big deal! The only way you could get any type of coverage was if you had flood insurance, if you lived in a flood zone, and IF FEMA declared it a flood! Sorry!

Yes, most homeowners insurance will cover this type of damage. You need to read your specific policy for exclusions for water damage.

No. Because it was a failure on your part to maintain the home. They are more likely to cover water damage caused by weather conditions beyond your control.

Does homeowners insurance cover plumbing repair to a leaking pipe behind a wall in the house?

AnswerIt may vary state to state but generally NO insurance will not cover the leaking pipe but it will cover the cost to get to it and repair the damage done to get to it as well as cover the damage done from the leak. You are on your own with the cost of the plumber. Best bet is to read your policy on exclusions. If it is not excluded, it's covered.

Does homeowners insurance cover water damage from a leaky dishwasher?

The insurance company will cover the damage caused by the water only, e.g., drying out the ceiling and floor covering. They will then pay to repair the room; damaged walls and floors. If the skylight leaked due to hail damage or other falling objects, the insurance will pay to replace the skylight.

Would homeowners insurance cover damage from a leaking gutter that damaged an enclosed porch ceiling and items on the porch?

No. Homeowners insurance is probably the best bargain in insurance by offering a great deal of coverages for a surprisingly small premium. The situation you are describing is not an insurance matter but a maintenance issue. It is not made to cover maintenance of the home but covers accidents that are "sudden and accidental". Homeowners insurance covers incidents that are caused by a covered cause such as theft, fire, lightning, windstorm, vandalism, weight of ice and snow, and many others. Things that happen over a long period of time are maintenance and are therefore not sudden or accidental and are not covered. An example would be a leaking roof caused by condensation from the A/C is not covered but if a storm caused a tree limb to fall on the roof poking a hole and causing a leak then damage would be covered.
