No, any TV jack can be used.
It can depend a great deal on the house and the cabling. In most cases, the closer the modem is to the main drop, the better off you will be. The shorter the run, the more data integrity you will have. The signal strength at the far end of the house may not be sufficient for the modem to work properly.
