It is well known that lemon juice can lighten the skin. The citric acid found in lemons makes lemon juice a natural skin lightening agent. Applying lemon juice to your face regularly can fade dark marks, freckles and lighten your skin by a few shades.

After cleansing your face, squeeze the juice of a lemon onto some cotton wool and apply directly to your face then wash off after 10-15 minutes then moisturize as usual. If you do this every night, you should start to see results in about 3 weeks. You will feel a tingling sensation from the citric acid but it shouldn't burn so if it does, wash it off straight away.

I dot know about limes but it's said that lemons do the job. Although this could take months, so the best thing to do is use hydroquinone. I've used lemon juice for month every night and morning and didn't see significant results. On the other hand hydroquinone I used one a month and had results in less then 3-4 months. And by results I mean the spots on my skin were gone.

You have what's called a psoralen reaction. When the citrus juice comes into contact with UV rays, it will temporarily dye the skin with brown patches.
