AnswerNo, your body will think it is being starved and your metabolism will slow down making it harder and harder to lose weight.

Eat when you are hungry. Eat what you want (obviously not candy for every meal) Eat consciously. (chew your food, savour it and enjoy it, don't eat in front of the TV) When you are full STOP eating.

YES, you will definitely lose weight eating once a day, particularly if you make it "your way of life" so it is not "a diet". Every health dietitian will argue against this BUT I've been doing this as a type 2 diabetic for over 35 years. I'm now 70 and in perfect health (other than Diabetes). At age 32 I was obese with all kinds of health problems. So I started exercising to lose the weight.

Fortunately my then neighbor was a leading heart specialist who advised against such exercise until I lost the weight. Frustrated with his reply, I asked, HOW do I lose the weight ? He then asked these questions: "How often do you feed you pet dog ? How often do lions or tigers eat ? What do they do right after eating ?" And then he slowly asked "Why do you think you're any different ?"

That day I began eating once a day, at dinner, just before bed.

Within 60 days none of my clothing fit. I was 180 pounds at 6 feet. I had lost almost 100 pounds. I'm still 180 pounds. And I still eat once a day. I feel like I'm 40 ! (OK 45). According to my doctor my sugar levels are fine and so are all my other vital signs. He doesn't agree with the once a day life style but clearly states - "but it's working for you, so don't change a thing". Yes, the first two weeks were tough.

Not in and of itself. It's unhealthy, yes, but there are more criteria for diagnosis of an eating disorder than the restriction of calories alone. Eating only one meal a day could certainly be a behavior of someone with an eating disorder.

By itself, eating once a day is not considered an eating disorder. It may not be considered by many to be the healthiest way to deal with eating and nutrition, but without much more information it is not diagnosable.

While it might be a sign of a compulsive eating habit, it could just be a common routine a person has established to make life easier and mroe convienent, so it is not a definite sign of an eating disorder.

I would say yes simply because you are starving yourself. The body is very funny about you starving it. Your body will extract and hold on to as much fat as it can in order for you to last all day with only eating one meal. Making it very hard for you to lose weight if you are trying to lose it. The reason why you should eat all day and by that I mean on healthy terms is to keep your metabolism up and running, also the healthier you eat the more your body gets used to using the good qualities of food such as vitamins and fibers instead of crapping or peeing them out. As well with excersise your body will be more proned to burn fat to fuel a work out and while you are constantly supplying your body with proper nutrition the less it will rely on fat for energy.

Yes it is very unhealthy. You will have lack of nutrients and possible starvation. You could die. The recommended meals per day is 3, not including snacks in between.

A 2000 calorie a day diet is normal for the average adult. Anything less nay be trouble depending on the size, weight , height and age of the person. it wouldn't be a eating disorder if a small child ate 1000 calories a day. eating disorder are MENTAL ILLNESSES how much or how little one eats isn't really the disorder. No, just because someone eats less than 1000 calories doesnt mean they have an eating disorder, they could just be on a crash diet. eventually (usually within days or weeks) they will stop no harm done.

How can you gain an eating disorder?

Take it from one who's been there, an eating disorder is NOT something you want!! Eating disorders can cause damage to your heart, esophagus, stomach, intestines, teeth (they can make your teeth fall out), and many other body parts. They can be fatal. They make a person's appearance go downhill rapidly. To this day I have stomach and digestive problems because of an eating disorder. Once I ended up in the emergency room with an esophageal spasm, a spasm of the esophagus, because of purging. Please do not go down that path. MorbidHunger: You can't "gain" or "make yourself" get an eating disorder its is a Mental illness. This is like saying "how do I make myself get schizophrenia/bipolar/autism spectrum disorder/etc?"...you cant. It develops over many many years usually starting in childhood/early adolescence.

What eating disorder do you have if you eat nothing but one medium-sized meal in a day and throw up right after eating and how much weight would you lose doing that?

this can be considered an eating disorder not otherwise specified. You have anorexic and bulimic tendencies in this case. The only weight you will lose is water weight. there are many side effects to a situation like this including tooth decay, ruptured esophoagus, hair loss and many others. if you or someone you know has these tendencies seek help before its too late.
