So Kovu does the same thing to Simba. But if Simba really died, I think that it would ruin the saga. Nothings the same without Simba.

Did the hyeanas die in the end of the Lion King?
We can speculate that the hyenas that killed Scar died from the flames that covered Pride Rock, but there were some hyenas seen fleeing from Pride Rock during the fight, and those are the ones that survived. But, Nuka in The Lion King II: Simba's Pridementioned that "the hyenas ran off" so it's possible that some, if not all, of the hyenas survived.
