Male pigeons (cocks) are larger and more territorial. Females (hens) are smaller and more passive. Because of the electrolytes in their body, you can use a magnet cut into a s…tip with a pointed end and on a string and hold it about a 1/2 inch above the pigeon's body. Make sure there isn't any breeze that will push the magnet around, and don't have the magnet too close to your own hand. Ideally, the magnet will swing in a circle if it is a hen and in a straight line if it is a cock, but this is not always reliable. The magnet usually takes a minute or so to show the gender, the first swing or two is not usually accurate. If you have two birds that are nesting, it is usually obvious which is the cock and which is the hen even if you don't observe them mating or see which one lays the egg. The hen will spend more time on the nest, and the cock's job is to protect it and bring straw for the female to build the nest with.
They both look alike, so you can't tell the difference.
A male pigon is darker then a female pigon!
no, yes it just wont be fetrilized
I haven't as yet found anyone that can be exactly sure of sexing youngsters, but I find that I can mostly tell by their behaviour when they are over five to six weeks old. Coc…ks are by far the more pushy especially if they are in good health, they are also usually bigger than the hen especially when compared to a sister that's hatched with them. I have been told to look at the head, the cock is much flatter whereas the hen is more rounded. This appears true on several in many instances but there are many occasions where I have been fooled.
The male will call but the females wont. In outward appearance, they are identical. You'd have to dissect one to know. Behaviorally, during the breeding season males will co…o loudly, puff up their neck, and turn around in circles while raising and lowering their head (And looking absolutely ridiculous). The females are the ones that tend to just ignore the males displaying in front of them or attempt to get away from them, as males will get involved in coo-offs, trying to out-do each other.
Female birds do not need male birds to lay eggs, they need them to lay fertile eggs.
Male piegon is always bigger and female is always smaller.
The female pigeons it is smaller in size their wattles are smaller her beak is thinner the size of her head is smaller and does not display very often as the male pigeon does …. The male pigeon is always displaying at his or other female pigeons ,his head is larger ,his wattles are larger and his size as a bird is larger then a female pigeon .When displaying a male pigeon will always make little circles and very often will open his tale sideways and pushing it in to the ground on the same time .
You can tell if a pigeon is male or female by looking at the size.
The first reason to keep them was to eat the flesh. It later came the knowledge of the messaging and homing capabilities. These days, people keep them to race them.
