How do you change the starter motor on a VW Golf?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

on a golf, depending on the model, its not a hard job at all.. just make sure you do it right and make sure everything is torqued to the right spec.my car, a 94 golf GL 2.0L gas automatic, was a bit of a chore because you have to remove a motor mount to do it. the first thing you can do to save yourself alot of hassle and cursing is remove the battery and battery tray. if you find this hard to do then stop now and take your car to a garage.after you've removed the tray, use a jack and locate the lift arm just between the oil pan and the tranny (theres an obvious flat spot) just lift the engine enough to release tension on the motor mount (maybe 4-5 inches high: to account for suspension travel too).step 1: disconnect all wiring from the starter motorstep 2: remove the bolt through the top of the motor mount at the front of the engine. the engine wont move.. at least it shouldn't yet.step 3: remove the bolt through the power steering line mount clipstep 4: remove the rest of the bolts holding the starter motor in placestep 5: extract the starter motor by pulling it straight out of the transmission.step 6: replace starter in the exact opposite way you removed it.be sure to torque the motor mount bolt to factory spec (check your manual)step 7: lower the lift jack under the carand that should be all.. its really not a difficult job, on a difficulty scale, maybe a 4/10.hope this helped... - Jeff

Sugar in the gas tank?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

First off, it is a myth that sugar will ruin an engine. Sugar will not dissolve in gasoline. It may clog the fuel filter or possibly the injectors, but it will not ruin your engine. If very little sugar was poured into the tank, then just change the filter maybe a few times and drive on. If lots of sugar was added, you may need to remove the tank and flush it out, replace the filter, and flush the fuel lines.

Causes for a Volkswagon GTI Horn not to work Fuse is still good?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Get a circuit tester and go out and put the red lead on one wire and the black lead on the ground wire and have someone push on the horn. Set your voltmeter to read 20 volts and watch , when the person pushes on the horn, the circuit tester should show a voltage reading maybe 12 or less but you shoudl get a reading. If you don't then there is somethign wrong in the wiring but if you get a reading...then the horn is bad and you need a new horn.

How do you make a blower or small turbo charger for a gas scooter?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

you can't

Well, if you have a small battery powered weed blower you could...you'd need to figure a way to connect it, and inject some extra gas, but it should work.

AnswerGo to wall wart and pick up a hairdryer. take it apart until you get the motor with the fan blades on it. That should run extremly fast at about 9-18volts depending on the motor. use a drill battery to power it. as for the extra fuel, figure out some way to get another gas line out, and have it hooked up to an electric switch of some sort, and hook that up to a bike pump needle valve thing ( you use it to pump up basketballs ). make some sort of adaptor to the air intake on a carb and fire it up! Also as a heads up, do not, I reapeat DO NOT USE PROPANE AS THE EXTRA FUEL!!! This can and WILL ruin your engine because it does not help lubricate the engine in any way, and could backfire on you resulting in a horrible explosion!

Answer

The previous two answers assume a pressure being built "after" the carburetor. That does require an increase in fuel. A simpler solution is to build an air-box "before" the carb and pressurize that. With a pre-pressure setup, the carb itself will deliver more fuel because of the pressurized air being pushed through it. The ideas above for a blower would work, although I prefer an automotive smog pump, due to the heat resistance, and operate it from a belt. I have used these to good results on Briggs engines. It would be heavier than a plastic impellor, but little chips of plastic from a heat distorted fan going into the intake would not be pretty. Propane is not a good idea, although if you are going to blow a small engine, you have already blown the warrantee. Think acetyline and raw O2 from your cutting torch tanks to pressurize the air box. (Use care and a scatter blanket.) I have made 72 horsepower from a Briggs 3.5hp engine. (blown, using O2 and cutting gas, aviation fuel in the tank, timing advanced 2 teeth and started with a drill) It lasted almost a minute, was at 13,000 rpm and accelerating when it blew.

how can ya make a engine go faster (peugeot 205 1.0)get the fan for the heatermetric from a saxo and build a box up for it so it sirculates the fan n seam weld it up, ad a tube to the center of the box so the center of the fan can draw in air make a tail on the inside of the box so the air is directed off from theside walls to an exaus pipe that goes to the air box, using fuse relay wire and a switch wire up to a permenant live switch. it makes a big difference trust an extera 10mph up a steep hill a got 45mph before 55mph after ok for a £10.00 and a bit off steel n about 2hour making it putting filler over the box (makes it look cool)and prime and respray £8.00 for the prim n paint!! and this is my way! Both. But I'd start with a cold air intake. Then do the APR Tune. After you get a turboback exhaust you can get a downpipe file from APR.

What recourse do you have on a salvage title?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If you purchased the car from a dealer you might have legal recourse. If you purchased the car from a private party, probably none since it is sold as-is, unless something was put in writing.

Lesson: Make sure the car you're buying is currently titled to the state you live in and ALWAYS do a Cafax and run the VIN number thru the DMV prior to a car purchase. There are clever ways to hide salvage titles and you might have been a victim of one of them.

Resurfacing rotor specifications for 2003 VW gti?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Any good machine shop can tell you if the rotors are a candidate for resurfacing or need replacing. They will know how to do this if they are reputable. You can get a new rotor for this car for $20 (rear) to $30 (front). I don't ever recommend having a rotor or drum turned, and I don't do it on my own cars. You need all the metal you can get to carry off the heat. I shall tell you the height of idiocy: The only place in town that has Volkswagen Beetle tires is Pep Boys. I wouldn't take a car to Pep Boys to get the ashtray dumped if I had any other option, but in this case I didn't. The worst idiot I have ever seen with an ASE patch on his shoulder was turning a brake rotor that had a huge chunk of metal broken out of it--by the time they were done the rotor was two inches smaller than it was when it came out of the box. That couldn't possibly have been safe to use--in addition to losing a lot of your braking surface and your heat-dissipation capability, a rotor that had suffered that much damage is a stress fracture waiting to happen.

What does the oil light look like?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There is no such thing as an oil pressure light on most cars. Some cars have oil pressure gauges, and all have a "Engine" light or "Check Engine" light with a picutre of either an oil can, or Engine Block

The oil pressure warning light usually looks like a little red oil can.

The check engine light looks like a little yellow engine.
