Which pistol is more powerful a 357 glock or 45 acp glock?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

When comparing the power of a .357 Glock and a .45 ACP Glock, it's important to consider several factors, including muzzle energy, bullet weight, and ballistic performance. Generally, the .357 Magnum cartridge is known for its higher muzzle energy compared to the .45 ACP cartridge. Here's a brief overview:

  1. **.357 Glock:**

    • The .357 Magnum cartridge is a powerful and high-velocity round. It typically offers higher muzzle energy compared to the .45 ACP.

    • The .357 Glock, often chambered in the Glock 31 or Glock 32, is known for its effective stopping power and flatter trajectory.

  2. **.45 ACP Glock:**

    • The .45 ACP cartridge is known for its larger bullet diameter and heavier bullets. It has a reputation for delivering substantial stopping power.

    • The .45 ACP Glock, like the Glock 21 or Glock 30, is appreciated for its recoil management and the classic "big bore" punch.

In terms of sheer power and velocity, the .357 Glock may have the edge. However, factors such as recoil, capacity, and personal preference also play a significant role in choosing a handgun. Some shooters prefer the heavier, slower recoil of the .45 ACP for its controllability, while others prefer the flatter trajectory and higher velocity of the .357 Magnum.

Ultimately, the "power" of a handgun is a subjective consideration that depends on the specific needs and preferences of the shooter. It's recommended to try out different calibers and models to determine what works best for you in terms of accuracy, recoil control, and overall shooting experience.

Will a Glock shoot underwater?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A GLOCK may be fired underwater, but irreversible damage will occur to the barrel. This damage is caused by the water present in the barrel: as the bullet is fired, the expanding gas and the physical size of the bullet will be forced against the water inside of the barrel creating a bubble-like impression that will pose serious danger to any subsequent rounds fired. There is also a specialized Philippine GLOCK 21 Mariner model which is altered for underwater capability. cf. This video is proof of a GLOCK fired underwater: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dvgu3VaO8sE

9mm Glocks have thicker barrels per pressure than 40 cal or 45 Glocks, and the latter are more likely to suffer catastrophic failure. All air must be out of the gun before firing. Full-metal-jacket ammunition must be used as hollow-point ammunition will expand in the barrel. Your maximum range will be a few feet, and your accuracy will be terrible. And after all that, there is still a chance your gun will break.

If that isn't bad enough, your hearing will be permanently damaged (the shock waves are about 4 times as powerful in water as in air), and shock waves reflecting off of hard objects (rocks, etc.) may actually damage your internal organs.

And on top of that, the water slows slide movement and ejection, so the gun will probably malfunction on the first shot.

All that being said, if an alligator was dragging me underwater and I had a Glock, I'd shoot the alligator. What do you have to lose?

Does a glock jam?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Glock has what is likely the most fanatical collection of fanboys of any firearms manufacturer with the possible exception of HK.

Despite what you may be told, yes Glocks can and do jam. ANY and ALL semi-auto handguns (and rifles for that matter) can and will jam. If someone tells you his gun has never jammed he is either a liar, or he doesn't shoot very often. Any gun will inevitably jam if used often enough, expecting otherwise is like expecting a car to never break down no matter how many miles and years you drive it.

Any automatic or semi-automatic firearm can and will jam due to wear, lack of lubricant, improper grip, or even ammunition malfunctions. The question is not if a gun will jam, it is when. That is why professionals train on how to clear jams quickly.

Now if you are wondering if Glocks jam any more or less often than other handguns, that falls into "it depends" category. If you buy something like a HiPoint or Kel-tec, because you wanted a gun but didn't want to pay money for a good one, then the Glock will indeed seem amazingly more reliable by comparison. If you are comparing Glock to other quality firearms manufacturers such as those made by Smith & Wesson, Sig-Sauer, HK, or many others, then it is no more or less likely to jam than any of those.

The most common causes of jams are

-Aging / defective magazines.

-Improper grip by the user

-Ammunition malfunctions

-Insufficient or excessive lubrication

-Bad Luck

Glock is no more likely or less likely to experience these things than other good to high quality guns.

Is the glock 17 gen 4 only double action or can it come in the double action single action version too?

The Glocks are striker fired pistols, not DA... there is no SA option, because the design of a striker fired pistol doesn't use a hammer, and it cannot facilitate such an action.

Yes, unless you have swapped the magazine release button to the right side (for left-handed use). Gen3 magazines do not have the notch for a reversed mag release. G17 magazines can be generally used in all 9mm Glock models.

The Glock 21 does fire the .45 ACP, as does the Glock 30. You're probably thinking of the Glock 37, 38, and 39, which fire the .45 GAP cartridge - those cannot fire a .45 ACP.

Ok I have a glock and in the magazine is it ok to leave it full with bullets or not?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You should not have bullets in the clip when not in use. The bullets conpress the spring, which stresses it to the point where it will not respond properly in an emergency.

Actually , leaving the mag loaded , compressing the spring puts no more stress on it than leaving it unloaded. It's the motion of compressing and releasing that weakens the spring over time. Leave 'em loaded.
