How do you clean your ice maker?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If you have a model with the self cleaning cycle, use a capful of vinegar or lemon juice with water before running the self cleaning feature. If you have a model that does not offer the self cleaning cycle, it is best to run your first few cycles with a capful of vinegar or lemon juice and water. Then, make sure that you empty the water reservoir and run a few cycles with clean water to take care of any plastic taste from manufacturing. This process can also be used from time to time to help keep your ice maker clean from impurities and help with calcium buildup caused by hard water.

Why does your ice maker overflow?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If you mean ice cubes overflowing, then there is probably something in the ice bin that is deflecting the ice cubes, as they fall from the ice maker. If it is something other than that, on some ice makers you can slightly bend the arm (the arm that sets the ice cube maker to go on & off) downwards to detect a full ice cube bin, by bending it downwards the bin will not fill as much, be careful when bending.

If you mean the water overflows when the ice cube maker is filling the water into the trays, then there is an adjustment screw under the cover of the ice cube maker, look close and there will be a small "+ and -" indicator, adjust the screw to the minus ("-") side and this will decrease the amount of water that flows into the tray. NOTE: this will make your ice cubes smaller.

User Avatar

Asked by Marcydogdoc

I've changed the Ice maker and the wated controler on the back of the Frige.... But when I turn the Ice maker on nothing happens. It's been on several hours now and no water has filled the the resovoir. I am thinking that the device should rotate and will release water into the resovoior. Is this correct or should water flow in once it's hooked-up?

The electronic relay that turns the water off and on to the ice maker croaked.
The valve that turns the the water on and off is toast.

How do you shut down an ice maker for the winter?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If there is a basement, locate the pipe where it goes through the exterior wall leading to the outside water faucet. This is your starting point.

Follow the pipe under the flooring, going towards the direction of where the water comes into the house from the meter. The first valve from your starting point is the shutoff valve for that faucet.

Do the same for each and every other outside faucet.

If there is no basement, you will have to access the shutoff valves by going into the crawl space. (I would take bug spray with me because of the spiders and their webs!)

Why does sub zero water supply to ice maker freeze up?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It could be that your water inlet valve is weeping. This means that a very small amount of water is passing through the valve constantly. Your inlet valve is a triple valve that supplies water to the ice maker and the water in the door, one to filter. The triple valve has three solenoids and three separate diaphragms and flow washers. If one side fails you must change the entire valve. (valve located on back side of unit where water supply connects)
