How do you set up a Backgammon game?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The object of Backgammon is to move your game pieces from the starting point to your opponent's starting point, and then remove them from the board. So, it is a race around the board, basically. If you leave one of your pieces exposed, it can be placed in the middle of the board, and you have to roll to get it back from there before continuing with other pieces. Additionally, it returns to the starting area, losing any progress it had made previously.

Excavations at Shahr-e Sukhteh (Persian شهر سوخته, literally "The Burnt City") in Iran have shown that the game existed there around 3000 BC. The artifacts include two dice and 60 checkers, and the set is believed to be 100 to 200 years older than the sets found in Ur. On the board found at Shahr-e Sukhteh the fields are fashioned by the coils of a snake.

How much is Backgammon?

Chess is commonly believed to have originated in India during the Gupta empire,[15][16][17][18] where its early form in the 6th century was known as caturaga, which translates as "four divisions [of the military]" - infantry, cavalry, elephants, and chariotry, represented by the pieces that would evolve into the modern pawn, knight, bishop, and rook, respectively. Both the Persians and Arabs attribute the game of chess to the Indians.[19] In Sassanid Persia around 600 the name became shatranj and the rules were developed further. Shatranj was taken up by the Muslim world after the Islamic conquest of Persia, with the pieces largely retaining their Persian names. In Spanish "shatranj" was rendered as ajedrez, in Portuguese as xadrez, and in Greek as zatrikion, but in the rest of Europe it was replaced by versions of the Persian shāh ("king"), which was familiar as an exclamation and became our words "check and chess".[20] Murray theorized that this change happened from Muslim traders coming to European seaports with ornamental chess kings as curios before they brought the game of chess.[18] Knights Templar playing chess, Libro de los juegos, 1283. The game reached Western Europe and Russia by at least three routes, the earliest being in the 9th century. By the year 1000 it had spread throughout Europe.[21] Introduced into the Iberian Peninsula by the Moors in the 10th century, it was described in a famous 13th-century manuscript covering shatranj, backgammon, and dice named the Libro de los juegos. Another theory contends that chess arose from the game xiangqi (Chinese Chess) or one of its predecessors.[22]

How many people play hockey in the US?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The exact number isn't known, of course, because in addition to those registered with official provincial, state, & national federations, many people such as myself play hockey for fun on local rinks all the time. I would suggest you go to the official international website at www.IIHF.com and check the list of nations where hockey is played. There they will tell you at least how many players are registered with each national federation.

Who has the authority to bar a person for many years from playing yahoo Backgammon and Why Who barred me and why Was it a programmer in yahoo Games?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

This may not be the answer you're looking for - but - people end up banned from sites because of their activity. Either they've done something against the site rules, or they've engaged in fraudulent activity.

As far as Yahoo goes - If you're sure you've done nothing wrong, it may be that someone else has been using your login details to 'damage' their site, and they've banned the user-name. Try registering a new login with them - if that works then you're good to go. If, it still won't let you in - they've barred your ISP. In which case - the only thing you can do is email their customer support centre, (there should be a link on their home page) and explain what's happened.

Ask them to investigate you recent site activity - they will have an 'audit trail' they can look through to see when you (supposedly) logged on - and you can match that with the times you know you were not on-line.

Good-luck with it anyway - let me know if you're successful.
