Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem - usually a failure in the emission control system
You can usually borrow, rent or buy a GM OBD code scanner at most auto parts retailers. Since OBD2 has come out, the old version has been called "OBD1", but that's not what it was called when it was being used..
The 1995 Eighty-Eight is a crossbreed. It uses the OBD-II connector but it is...
\nA problem with the emissions will sometimes shut off the traction control, thus illuminating the light.
Suggest you have it checked for trouble codes. The engine computer and airbag system should both have codes.
Try changing the bulb, take of the steering wheel then undo the two skrews in lower r and l corner of the instrumet panel. Take care if you have air bag!!!!!!!!!!
If you keep getting a Po410 code You have water in your smog pump. It's located at the bottom of the radiator, passenger side. You can get the pump on e-bay but you'll need the GM # off the old pump. Also check the relay and fuse located on the passenger side wheel well behind the...
Disconnect the negative battery cable for 30 minutes.
Check Engne Light .
The engine computer had detected something wrong somewhere in the engine management system. This could be an O2 sensor or any number of things. Take your car to a shop and have your car scanned for fault codes to see what the problem might be.
Clearing Engine Check light .
To start, the Ignition key must be in position II, engine not running. Locate the two diagnostic sockets just inboard of the washer fill cap. The "A" connector (shown above) has a jumper that is stored in the lid of the "A" diagnostic connector. The jumper is used for...
yes they do, take off valve covers and adjust rockers as noted in repair manual
Check Engine Light .
A check engine light comes on for a reason. The engine computer has detected something wrong somewhere in the engine management system and your car's computer needs to be scanned for fault codes to determine the source of the problem. If you have done all that then your cars...
It is usually indicative of the E.G.R. Valve (Exhaust Gasoline Recirculation Valve). Is your gas mileage way down? I Had E.G.R. Valve replaced and the light no longer comes on. Good luck. Thank-you for sharing.
First, you need to fix whatever's wrong, then you unhook your battery cable for about 30 minutes, then re-hook. If it comes back on, you have a problem that was not addressed.
You select TRIP A on the odometer. Turn the key off, hold down the select button on the odometer (the one you used to select TRIP A)... while the car is off, then turn the key to on. Here is a video of the procedure:\nhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vj7kK5i2tPc&feature=related
Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem most auto parts stores will do this free.
You can buy an inexpensive OBD scanner for $50 or so on Amazon. Plug it in, read out the codes, and Google them.
\nLook and listen for a vacumn leak under the hood.
Disconnect the battery cable, wait few second that reconnect. That will reset the engine light but doesn't fix the problem. if the problem was not fixed the light will come back on.
The P0443 code translates to: "Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit". To find more information on this code, go here:.
For a complete list of codes, go here:.
The computer knows .
Thats not normal. Have the codes read at the dealer or at a parts store to find out what is happening with your engine at 65mph.
you have a problem known to many alero and Pontiac grand am cars you have a bad wheel bearing, this is a common problem with these cars and they will not do a recall on this.you need to have your front wheel bearing hubassemblies replaced its not a bad job can be done by a decent backyard mechanic...
Answer poor idle quality .
check all vacuum hoses,a leak will cause erratic idling.also could be the throttle position sensor.plug a scan tool into the car, there should be a code,as to why the check engine lite is on. .
after driving the car, pull off the vacuum line on your fuel pressure...
Sometimes, when you don't put the gas cap on properly, a computer will detect that the fuel evaporation recovery system isn't working properly and it will turn on the MIL. Just make sure you put the gas cap on tight and the code shouldn't come back.
In the units computer an algorithm is in operation looking at hours of engine operation, engine temperatures, speeds etc. From the sensor inputs the system calculates when to tell you to change the oil. The frequency of service depends on how many short trips are taken versus long trips...
The check engine light is an indicator that the computer has detected a fault in one or more of the electronic components. Use a code scanner to figure out what is wrong.
Take it to Autozone (or your local parts store) and they will connect the scan tool to your truck, then you will press reset.
So I just did this on my 2007 XC 90.
Turn key to l position.
Press odometer button until beep..
Turn key to ll position.
Press odometer button until triangle warning sign flashes, release immediately.
It isn't possible to answer that question. Did you repair the problems that set the light in the first place? Are there any other problems with the engine? In general, if everything is working properly AND you have resolved all of the issues that the computer detected, you SHOULD pass the emissions...
P1463 Heated Catalyst Battery Temperature Sensor 1 Electrical (BMW) P1463 ACP Sensor Insufficent Pressure Change (Ford)
its the traction control light. more specifically its the traction control malfunction light
Its at the back of the engine underneath the oil filter
Possible head/headgasket failure.
You don't, the light has to be repaired.
There is an OBD I plug somewhere on the vehicle.
Answer it may be your oxygen sensors The service light is nothing more than a lamp connected to a 100 hour time delay relay. It's purpose is to remind you to service the engine at regular intervals. Do it when the lamp ios illumenated and reset the time delay relay by pushing a screwdriver or...
The only way you will know what is wrong ( there could be problems that do not affect the way it runs right now ) is to have the computer codes read. If the light is on there "is" a problem.
\nno, door locks have nothing to do with check engine light.
'87 Dakota stalls @ idle... .
Have the "Throttle Position Sensor" checked. I don't think this is a component that you can easily check yourself with a meter. I had an '87 Dakota V6 that stalled just as you described. Replacing the throttle position sensor solved the problem. If you know how to...
Take the car back to the ser vicer and have them fix what they broke. It sounds like they fitted the wrong parts. The rotors then damaged the wheel speed sensors (that's the rubbing you hear) and caused the ABS system to indicate a failure. If you paid by credit card you may have leverage with the...
\nCould be low fluids or a electronic component in engine...
I also have been fighting this demon. I've had the engine codes read and reset twice. I believe there is a short/bad connection on a harness somewhere. I've replaced the engine coolant temp sensor which didn't solve this problem. My temp gauge reads 0 and the coolant fans remain on constantly (both)...
www.autonostics.com has a diagonstic testing tool (you can purchase for about $25) which simply plugs into a 16-pin socket typically found under the instrument panel. This tool comes with a book which contains a list of code definitons, although I am not entirely certain whether they are applicable...
I had that exact same problem and Im replacing my oil pump now.
\n Answer \n.
\nYou require a code reader to figure out what it's trying to tell you. You can get one for 60-80 bucks at your local parts store, or you can pay someone to read them for you.\n answer \n.
\na flashing check engine indicates that the engine is misfiring or has misfired...
Reset check light .
\nI think you take off the + batt.cable for about 15 seconds then reconect. Should be reset... Rick D
Here lies your answer
Evap control systems are often times difficult to diagnose. Try using information here:.
If that is more than you want to deal with you may want to take it to a good mechanic.
You may have a faulty engine light. Or, you may have a seriousproblem with your car. You should take your car to a local mechanicfor diagnostics.
\nThe problem is, you haven't used a code scanner yet. The code scanner will tell you the rest of the story. Borrow, rent or buy an OBD2 code scanner at your local auto parts retailer. Many auto parts retailers will even help you use it and figure out what it all means.
Try disconnecting the positive battery cable for 3 to 5 minutes, replace. If you have serviced the engine and all levels are good this should reset the computer chip that controls this light.
Trouble code P1698 means: No CCD Messages Received From The TCM CCD is the comunication system Chrysler uses between computers.
Ecu is fried or your wires somewhere are touching and will cause your ecu to fry! Happened to me, that's why I'm on here.
Computer code .
You need to have the computer codes read at the dealer or a parts store ( lots of them will do it for free ) the issue that your truck is having may have nothing to do with the gas cap. If you did have the codes read and a gas cap was the answer then disconnect the battery or...
It is a vapor leak in the fuel system. Starting in 1996 vehicles check for leaks down to .020 inch.
It could be a problem that is showing up intermittently. Most of those types of problems are stored in the computer, so you could probably borrow, rent or buy an OBD2 code scanner that would tell you what's going on. Check with your local auto parts retailer. They can often give you a little...
Trouble code P0442 means: Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (small leak)
P1614 - Ignition key/engine control module malfunction
\n Answer \n.
\nCheck for vacuum hose leaks under the hood, causing the car to run too rich.\nThe Mechanic may have knocked a hose loose or leaned on a hose causing a crack at the connectors while he was changing the belt.\n.
\nIt's not difficult to replace an air hose. Take the old...
CHECK OUT YOU ALTENATOR FIRST .DIMMING LIGHTS ARE A SIGN OF THE ALTENATOR.YOU CAN CHECK IT YOURSELF THE OLDSCHOOL WAY BY PLACING A SCREW DRIVER ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE ALTENATOR IN THE CENTER ON THE RUSTY DARK DOT THAT IS A MAGNET IF THE SCREW DRIVER STICK THE MAGNETIC FIELDING IS STILL GOOD..........
very possibly it is the glow plug relay, try dissconecting the relay for a day or two and see if the battery still goes flat, another test is to connect a multimeter or 12 volt test lamp to one of the glow plug terminals, if it stays lit all the time it is the relay if it goes out after about 30...

In the absence of any other problems (such as lean running condition, worn or non-iridium spark plugs, or damp weather) expect an EGR valve stuck open or a faulty MAP sensor.
Many cars will keep a history of any codes that have been tripped since the last time the codes were cleared. Once codes are cleared by a scanner they are erased permenantly.
\nHave the cars cooling system tested at a reputable shop . The test you want to have done is a LEAK DOWN test which will give you a good idea where this problem is. Often this problem is due to a leaking head gasket.
\npo 302 is not a valid code but maybe misfire code number 2 cylinder
It will fail most tests if the light is on.
To many variables/year/model /auto or standard/describe light thats on/were their any problems leading up to this, or maybe the exhaust brake is stuck on, or maybe you have ignored your regeneration light on a newer model.
Engine missfire. Cylinder #4
Chances are it is the transmission control unit (TCU). You should probably take to a qualified / reputable shop and have it scanned to be sure. I believe that auto repair stores (Advance Auto, Auto Zone, O'Reily's also offer free computer scans - if they have the hook-ups for that age of vehicle.
if it runs sluggishly and dies when you "punch" it - like to get out in front of traffic, good chance it's the timing belt. Hyundai uses a "toothed" belt for timing and not a chain as in alot of other vehicles. the timing belt controls the rate at which the pistons fire in conjunction with the fuel...
Go to the local Auto store and ask them to read the codes for you. They can tell you what the codes mean and what part to buy. You can also look the codes up online.
\nmore than one spark plug is misfiring
Could be that after you started it then turned it off then restarted it that you've reset the codes and fooled the Computer... you need to have the codes run on the car to see what the problem really is, i dont think its anything major since the car seems to be running good..
Generally the check engine light will come on when the car is needof a tune up. It may run fine, however, the vehicle should still beinspected.
Check Engine Light on Ford Windstar may show more different problems than bad exhousting fumes for which reason I believe you replaced the oxigen sensors..
Anyway, it often resets (turns off) after the problem was resolved by disconnecting the battery and wait 1 minute to discharge all the circuits....
P1700....Malfunction Indicator Lamp requested by trans control module
That car uses the OBDII system. You can buy a generic scan tool for them at parts stores for around $100. Most parts stores will even scan them for free.
There may be problems with your check engine light. You should havethe fuses checked in your car to eliminate potential problems.
Yes, may read service engine soon, check engine, .....
Trouble code P0440 means: EVAP System No Flow During Purge
Code P1299: Cylinder Head Over Temperature Protection Active Indicates an engine overheat condition was detected by the cylinder head temperature (CHT) sensor. An FMEM Strategy called Fail-safe Cooling was activated to cool the engine. Engine cooling system concerns Low engine coolant level Base...
Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem - usually in the emission control system,
With out knowing what code you have set, that question can not be answered. Some codes can be caused by failures that can be damaging to the engine.
Truthfully, this was a stupid question. If you had a time machine judging by the questionyou asked and the way you wrote you'd probably cause it to explode. We are CENTURIES away from figuring out the fabric of time and space for now time machines science fiction.
Usually a problem in the emission control system - have vehicle scanned to determine the problem
This sounds like a misfire. The computer recognized this as a potential fatal problem and it is not. I would have the plugs and wires checked....have Autozone run diagnostics on your car and the specific cylinder will be identified. Good Luck
Hi, I was told that if you fill the gas tank while the car is running, the check engine light may come on, it will go off after a while of driving. I had the same intermittant problem.....
The check engine light is telling you that the computer has information that you should read. You can find out what the engine fault code is by turning the ignition key to the run position (don't engage the starter, you are not trying to start the car) then back to the off position 3 times...
Misfire condition. You may need a tune up or have a compression loss.
How Do I reset the Engine service light on a 1996 Inifiniti I30? Please help. thanks
Bank 1 is usually on the driver side of the motor and bank 2 is the passenger, sensor 1 is the one on the header and sensor 2 would be after the catalytic converters.
Bank 1 is the same side as cylinder #1..
Bank 2 is the other side.
At key on it should come on for a couple second "bulb check".
Trouble codes .
Too many things to list. Take it to Autozone or some place similar and they will most likely read the computer trouble codes for free and you can have a better idea of where to go from there.
Cars now days are funny. Any little thing not right in the massive amounts of sensors will throw a check engine light. Have the vehicle brought to your local AutoZone for a free diagnostic check. It could be something as simple as the gas cap is not on tight. AutoZone will check it out for free.....
you'll need to fix your base timing.(try with a timing light) I don't believe that you can do this with a timing light, in this model this is all accomplished with sensors and the best source of information to do this is on the Chilton's website, it will be free through the library database. If you...
check your gauges first is it running hot ? is the oil pressure ok ? if the engine seems to be running fine then it could be a bad ground theres alot of things that could cause this but those are the easyest to determine
The radio and various lights consume far far less current than the starter motor trying to crank the engine. Would try another battery or trying to start car jumped to another battery just to make sure. == Answer == If it is standard shift it could be a bad neutral safety switch usually located...
Trouble code P0441 means: Evaporative Emission System Incorrect Purge Flow
I would think that almost all diesel systems are near infallible, I didn't look it up but my first look would be at the solenoid on the pump to see if is shorting at low voltage. My second look would be to my fuel pump at the tank or inline. The other place would be to the ignition switch. These are...
