The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are strategically important for various reasons, The area is supposedly rich in oil and a good place to grow crops, certainly both important resources in todays world. Not only that, but it is in the Pacific, its close to areas like Korea, Vietnam, and China...Keeping a close eye, and a naval flotilla on standby would be nice. Before the Brits liberated the Island from Jap control in 1945, it was only really valued for Port Blair, where they housed naval units during the war.
