Are Adderall and Methylphenidate the same?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Essentially speaking, "meth", adderall (and other ADD meds), and cocaine are all made up of the same stuff, called Amphetamines. The only difference is their mechanisms of action, which are not yet fully understood. The 'meth' in methamphetamines is an extra molecule which binds on to the amphetamines and makes them last longer in your body. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphetamines

Is it ok to take Concerta and focalin?

Both are forms of methylphenidate, so it is very unlikely that both would be prescribed together. Both could be safely taken together at low dosages. However, taking both together will have a compounding effect.

Can you take GABA and Concerta at the same time?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I take 56mg of Concerta and 750mg of GABA and I do not recommend taking the both! I've been getting hot flashes, dizzy spells and increased heart rate. At times I feel like I'm going to have a heart attack. I recommend if mixing the both medications to get a low dosage of GABA or a lover dosage of Concerta. And do not drink energy drinks if taking both medications, it felt horrible.

User Avatar

The shelf life of Concerta is 3 years. Any time after that, it will start to decay and the chemicals will break down. Since it is an FDA approved drug, the break down should be non-toxic to the environment. Take expired Concerta at your own risk.

You can if you don't watch your food intake after the Concerta/Ritalin wears off. Since it is a stimulant, it usually causes a loss of appetite. After the Concerta/Ritalin wears off, there have been reports of people tending to binge eat.

How much weight loss can be expected while on Concerta?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Though I didn't begin taking it to lose weight, I've definitely had that result. I was 216lbs when I went to the dr. to ask questions about ADD and whether or not I have symptoms and how serious they might be. I was diagnosed with a pretty strong case of ADD (basically my mind is always racing, starting different projects, but not able to avoid distractions and not able to follow through on projects both work and home. Many times having 5 or more things going on my desk at once - juggling back and forth, avoiding tasks that required concentration, etc.) I was prescribed 36mg per day and noticed the impact immediately with the loss of desire to sleep all the time (typically caused by desire to escape the juggling of all of my tasks). I had energy galore, am able to concentrate all day long, read for long periods (boring financial stuff not novels) and retain the information. I also had heartburn and headaches the first few days. After about 5 days, I took a day off from the Concerta and started again the next day. Since that time, I haven't had any side effects whatsoever, other than lots of energy and concentration and a dramatic effect in my productivity. So... the question about weight loss. One month later I went to the dr. as a follow up and was surprised to weigh in at 9lbs less... Since then (only a week ago), I've really began to watch my diet (encouraged by the previous month's results without event trying), count calories and keep a journal of what I eat, exercise daily, and I've dropped another 5-7 lbs already. I'm doing nothing drastic like on Biggest Loser, just 30 minutes of exercise (cardio) plus weight lifting, and eating about 1800 - 2000 calories a day from probably over 3000 a day before. I'm guessing that once I reach my target weight and shape in the next month or two, I'll have to find my target calorie intake that keeps my weight steady since the Concerta will continue to cause my body to burn more calories- I assume that'll be about 3000 calories a day but we'll see... Hope this helps provide info to someone.

What are the side effects of Concerta?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Concerta is a brand-name for the drug methylphenidate. Methylphenidate is a central nervous stimulant; in most countries, methylphenidate is a controlled substance and carries penalties for obtaining or taking without a prescription from a licensed doctor.

Concerta can cause an allergic reaction in individuals, even if the past they have had no reactions: symptoms include hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, tongue, lips, or throat. In the event of an allergic reaction, seek medical help immediately.

Stop taking Concerta and consult your physician immediately if you have a serious side effect such as:

  • fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeat;
  • fainting, or feeling light-heated;
  • severe headache, blurred vision, trouble concentrating, chest pain, numbness, or seizure (signs of increased blood pressure)
  • easy bruising, or purple spots on the skin
  • shaking, restlessness, hallucinations, unusual behavior, or muscle twitches

Less serious side effects that have been reported include: headache or dizziness, sleep problems, dry mouth, sweating, mild skin rash, numbness, loss of appetite, and weight loss.

Can you take Concerta and weed?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

omg yes. took 3 18mg concertas before smoking weed and it intensified my high so much. it was a good intensity though cause i was at school. having concerta with the weed made me much higher while making me focus on schoolwork and such. it also decreases munchies. it was good.

--------------------------------------------------------------

I'm no doctor or chemist, but generally weed can be taken with anything. There are several things that are lethal when mixed with alcohol, but this is not the case with weed. I'm sure that weed would either amplify or mellow out your experience. Also, I'm not sure whether you have a prescription to the concerta or if something you are using for recreational purposes.

---------------------------------------------

I am ADHD and I was a pothead. Weed supposed to mellow you down and Ritaline(Concerta) supposed to wake you up and keep you alert.

My doctor have warned me many times NOT to do both and there may cause issues to your body.

Despite that, why would you want to mix a downer with an "upper"?

EG, it is a waste of money to do coke and weed at the same time don't you think?

I don't do any more drugs including Weed. Concerta is all I need to treat my ADHD issue.

But if anyone is having trouble focus to read or to do anything constructive to their lives, I highly recommend these people to do a ADHD check. Why would you want to get high if there is a drug that helps you become a better person? There is no reason to abuse it.

Weed really dont do much to me except it knocks me out at night and I love the taste of it. Concerta is my perfect drug. Nothing else for now
