Is English mastiff bigger than saint bernard?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Everything I've read tells me that the English Mastiff is the largest dog breed in the world. The ones I've seen are bigger than the one or two St Bernards I've seen. We're talking a 300 pound dog here!

Autchully the English mastiff weighs about 290 for males they can but the minimum is about 267 pounds The st.benard wouldn't fight the English mastiff because the St.benard has to be in a cold cliement but if they didnt the mastiff would win because it outweighs it and it is the biggest house-outside dog in the world other than the codiac or bear or black bear or anything else the English mastiff and stbenard are biger than even the Hyeana.

How big is an English mastiff cross American bulldogge?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If the mother is the Old English Mastiff then the puppies would be bigger than if the American Bulldog was the mother.
If the English Mastiff was the mother then I would say that they could be almost as big or as big as the Old English Mastiff, depending on whose genes they have, probably lighter in the body, but very muscular.
If the mother is the American Bulldog, the puppies would probably be just a bit bigger than that, but probably not as big as an Old English Mastiff.
I have a Neopolitan Mastiff x Labrador bitch. Her mother was the labrador and she is about the size of a large labrador male, with a very deep chest but has her mothers labrador head and black labrador colouring, even though her mother was a yellow labrador. Her father was a brindle.

Who is better guard dog bull mastiff or a German shepherd?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A German Shepherd is a naturally a guarding dog with excellent skills.

They will restrain your intruder and won't actually maul the intruder and normally not inflict deadly harm to an intruder.

Whereas a Bull Mastiff would probably actually aim to kill someone if provoked. You obviously don't want a lawsuit on your case.

Where can you buy bull mastiffs?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

First of all you need to educate yourself about this breed. Is this the breed for you? I have bred and raised them since 1982 & they are not for everyone. This is a very powerful and stubborn breed. Any ethical and good breeder is not going to sell their pet quality pups cheaply. Do not purchase from some backyard breeder, as you will get what you pay for. Make sure both the parents are OFA certified hips and elbows, so they must be at least 2 years old for that to happen. Do not listen to any excuses why the hips & elbows are not certified. Hip and elbow dysplasia is a bad thing in this breed and we the ethical breeders will not breed any of our breeding stock unless they pass first. Also do the breeders show their dogs? Do they do any obedience work with them? Are both of the parents able to be touched and petted? So much to look for. Be very careful who you purchase a bullmastiff from and expect to pay a decent price if you are purchasing from a ethical breeder as this breed is very expensive to raise and breed, if you are doing everything correctly. Mainly educate yourself on this breed. Please feel free to contact me if you have anymore questions. We also have rescue bullmastiffs available to good homes only. You would need to contact the parent club, the American Bullmastiff Association, can find it on the internet.

Are great danes' taller than a great Pyrenees'?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes. A great Pyrenees should be 27-32" (weighing 115lb) in males and 25-29" (weighing 85-90lb) in females. A German sheperd dog should be 24-26" in males and 22-24" in females. Both genders should weigh 75-95lbs.

What is the size of a bull mastiff?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There is some variation in brain size among different Dog Breeds, but that is mostly due to variation in body size. W. Tecumseh Fitch's 2010 book "The Evolution of Language" explains that, in general, larger animals have larger brains -- you couldn't very well encase a humpback whale's 10-pound brain in your skull. But if you're comparing brain size relative to body size, as the breed's body size gets smaller, dog brain size doesn't necessarily shrink in exact proportion. Smaller dogs tend to have brains that seem huge in proportion to their bodies when compared to the brain/body ratio of larger dogs.

Which breeds of mastiffs don't drool?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Most dogs will drools when tempted with something yummy like a bit of food. A bullmastiff loves food and will drool when baited with food. The tighter the jowls are, the less it might drool. The longer the jowls, the more he or she might drool. But over all they don't drool unless they are being tempted by food or getting ready to eat.

Can you breed an English mastiff with a chihuahua if so would the mom have to be the mastiff due to size?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Since they are both of the species Canis Lupus Famililiaris (despite obvious size, and appearance differences) its possible artificially, although its morphologically impossible for it to be achieved naturally due the size of the male Chihuahua and the massive size of the Mastiff. If the female Mastiff was artificially inseminated then she could easily whelp the puppies. As to the appearance i am completely unsure, i am personally trying to get a little just from sheer curiosity. I have a friend with a pure English Mastiff female and another with a pure Male Chihuahua, both are from healthy and temperamentally sound bloodlines so i might make this happen!

How do pitbulls mate?

It is probably wiser to have the pit be the male unless its an extremely big female. If the pit isn't big enough to mount the mastiff then you will have to artificially insemenate if that's how you spell it. Good luck

Are Tibetan Mastiffs good swimmers?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes. My English mastiff was very hesitant at first in the water and would only go so deep. When it started getting warmer and more people and dogs were swimming, she decided to give it a try and loves it. I know some mastiffs do not swim but they have the ability to.

Will removing dew claws on a mastiff disqualify you from the show ring?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Removing dew claws is a surgical procedure, considered by many Breed Organizations to be inhumane and unnecessary since its usually done shortly after birth with no anesthetic. You need to check with the relevant Breed Organization or Club to find out what their policy is...or talk to the Show secretary for the show's policy.

Why are you throwing up white foam?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

In my case I was taking Nexium twice per day. Nexium causes a foam to develop in the stomach so that the gastric acids don't come up the esophagus. Usually a person doesn't take the high dose of Nexium 40 mg twice per day. Anyway, my stomach was full of foam and also the digested food wasn't moving to the intestine as it should.... given Reglan for that... it worked without side effects.

So, when a stomach is full of foam and you drink a half glass of water the foam comes to the top. The more one drinks or eats, the more foam is coming up the esophagus... and then finally coming out of it... sometimes formed like a white foam sausage until it touches the porcelain sink or toilet, when it disappates.

So my severe gastritis caused the need to use Nexium, which caused the white foam, and sometimes with gastric acids, bile, and mucus to come out, too.
