What is the temperament of a border terrier x pug?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

As you are talking about a mixed breed dog, it is very hard to say exactly what the demeanor of the dog would be. When you take two different breeds and put them together, it could have more jack Russel tendencies, more pug tendencies, or a solid mix of both, either way, it is bound to be interesting because they are two VERY different kinds of dogs. Jack's are very hyper, Pug's are NOT.... In fact, in a litter of 5 you could see 5 completely different tempermants.

What breed of dog looks like a pointer but is the size of a Jack Russell?

As a general statement any dog who has the potential to indicate a prey ( an object, harmfull material etc) by the erect staying body language can be called as a pointer dog! but there are dogs that had been specificaly bred for centuries for this sole purpose are german short haired, long haired pointer, english pointer and some others. used in hunting its in thier blood or if given a good training to enhance this feature of dog,it will run around in zig zag manner until it finds a bird like quil,or game bird and then erecting, narrowing its body towards it to show its master that the bird is in its sight. A Pointer is a bird dog. They were bred to point out birds in the countryside, giving them the name, 'Pointer.' Pointers would flock ot birds so that their masters could kill one while it was in the air. The dog would bring back the bird to its master.(regards zainii)

How do you hand strip border terrier?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

When coat is ready to strip, it will feel harsh and dry to touch. At this point, the top-coat will come away easily for hand stripping. Pinch a SMALL piece of hair at a time and pluck gently but firmly in the direction of coat growth. Start at the shoulders / back of neck and work down smoothly in small sections. Be careful when doing undercarriage, thighs etc - these areas tend to be more sensitive.

What is the personality of a border terrier?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It was in the Cheviot Hills near the border of England and Scotland that the Border Terrier was first bred. The breed is possibly one of the oldest types of terriers in Great Britain. The farmers had problems with foxes killing their stock and the Border Terrier worked alongside them to drive the fox out of their dens and kill them. They were small enough to follow a fox into the ground but big enough to keep up with the horses. The dogs were often not fed by the farmers in hopes it would make their prey drive even higher and they had to hunt to survive. Along with fox they hunted otters, marten, the fierce badger, mice and rats. Today while the Border Terrier is mostly a companion dog, he can still serve as a fine farm dog, helping to control vermin. The Border Terrier was recognized by the British Kennel Club in 1920 and by the American Kennel Club in 1930. Some of the Border Terrier's talents include: hunting, tracking, watchdog, agility, competitive obedience, and performing tricks.

Are Border Terriers vocal?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No, only when they think someone is one their territory or something. Mine barks at people walking on the sidewalk or when she hears a doorbell on tv. When she sees people on the sidewalk she only barks, she never attacked anyone in the three years she lived with us. But, I do warn you, Rat Terriers pick one person to be their owner. They are still friendly to everyone they meet, they just like that one person more.

Why is your border terrier acting strange?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

This is the sign of a dog in a bad mood! If the dog growls at you when you pet him, you should not just pet him, but approach him carefully and gently show him your hand. If he does not growl, try petting him gently on the back and see his reaction.

If he still growls, your dog may be sad and you should take him to a vet to get it confirmed or denied or find out if anything's wrong.

The dog might also have trust issues for some reason. But do not count on this, though.

Why are some cats not friendly?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Answer

Pet cats are friendly for the most part. If you get a kitten then it's the way you raise them. I have a female tabby named Molly and she's as smart as a whip and gentle as a lamb. She owns the house we live in! She loves company, kids and doesn't mind coming out strutting herself when we have guests over. I've taught her tricks (she says her prayers; sits up; flips in the air upon command, etc.) She's curious, always wants to know what is going on and loves the two dogs I have (I call them "The 3 Amigos.)

If you are adopting an older cat then handle the cat first and ask the ASPCA (U.S.) or SPCA (Canada) any history on the cat. If the cat is touchy and doesn't enjoy being handled and you are uncomfortable with it then this may not be the cat for you. However, some cats have been mistreated and just need a little TLC.

Dogs are generally more popular than cats, but cats are becoming quite popular in the last couple of years. People have this idea that cats are very independent and not as affectionate as a dog, but I've owned 3 cats in my life and can tell you that my cats have been just as lovable and comforting to me as my dogs and all of them get along together.

Answer

House Cats are very friendly, most of the time. It really depends on how you treat it. If you don't spend some time with it, it might not be very nice to you. so take very good care of it.

Answer

Most cats by nature are wary of humans, cats are very smart and know humans can be very cruel and that's why cats may run away from you in the street instead of come when you call

Cats are very friendly when they trust you, time and patience and lots of love are all it takes so if you are getting or have a new cat, give it time and lots of positive attention and praise.

My own cat was a bit of a terror in his youth and we found that he was lets say, not to everyone's taste, and not everyone was to his! And yes he seemed and possibly was unfriendly to people it was nothing to do with how much time we spent with him, I spent a lot of my time with him nor how I treated him, I loved him to bits and he knew it.

He was just a bit temperamental before and he settled in his old age and new circumstances (moving out my dads house and in with me and my boyfriend when I moved out and even we were shocked at his change- crazy mean cat who didn't like to be touched or told what to do to so lovable, loved any and all attention, and was forever cuddling us)

Where as my boy's mum's cat was the most angelic little piece of fluff ever and everyone who met her for the first time loved her and her them and she loved to be touched, even on her belly

Like people they are all different, my cat was a little misunderstood, but i got him perfectly and loved him for all his mental disabilities.

Sometimes it is to do with treatment, I do know my cousin used to play rough (not bad just rough) with my cat as a kitten before we got him and this may have contributed to his behavior but most cats can be brought around from this with love and training, and patience!

Generally cats make great companions and when they trust you will be your friend for life, but they may not be friendly with everyone you know, as with people cats can also have people who 'rub them up the wrong way' forgive the pun and they may not like them from the start, but then some may begin to trust them too with time etc.

What do you call a Jack Russell x border terrier?

Natterjacks or Patterjacks?A Jack Russell crossed with a Patterdale Terrier produces a Patterjack

Ah actually the "Patterjack" is not a breed it is a cross bred designer dog just like most dogs found in shelters. It is not a purebred anything, just a marketing ploy used by a great many puppy millers to get big dollars from what I call "mutt puppies" or "ditch dogs" which is where a great many of these wind up.

I'm sorry this is not what you wanted to hear, but it doesn't make your dog any less of a good dog that loves you. I have a three of these "mutt puppies" and love each of them. Just don't plan on breeding it and making tons of money from a breed that doesn't exist. Please get it spay/netuered by 6 months of age to keep from adding any more puppies to the shelter.

While agreeing with all of the above, I just wanted to add that my own Patterjack bitch is the best dog I've ever owned...and I've had dogs for almost 40 years. I am breeding her (with a sweet-tempered, well-pointed JRT), but with the full intention that all the puppies will be staying with me. If you can't face a houseful of dogs, PLEASE get your dog spayed/neutered.

on a final note...mongrels (as I've always called non-pedigrees) make just as good pets as pedigrees, and sometimes don't have the health problems that some breeds of pure-breds can suffer from.

Good luck with your lil Patterjack, and I hope you have many happy years.###I could not dissagree more with the previous statement.Patterdale terriers aka fell terriers aka rough bred lakelands are just a mix/cross of various terriers themselves and they are widley regarded as the best there is for working.Patt x Russels make excellent working dogs and to suggest not breeding of them is doing them a great disservice.Ive had working dogs since the 70s & owned patterdales, borders, rough bred lakelands,JRT & various Xs.Patt x russels are up there with the patterdales.A fine example of the effectivness of cross breed terriers for working is the border/lakeland terrier. This is a VERY POPULAR breed among terrier men in the north of england.

2 cups twice a day so added up that's 4 cups. 2 in the morning and two at night like while you are eating. Keeps them at a healthy weight. Keep them active! Also depends on the weight already. Mine is 100 lbs on the dot so thats what I feed him. I also have a half black lab half collie, I feed her a cup and a half in the morning and a cup and a half at night.
