Shevchenko Taras Hruhorovych (1814-1861) - poet, painter, philosopher. Completed the process of formation of Ukrainian national literature as part of the world literature. Regarded as the father of Ukrainian national literature.

Yaroslav the Wise (about 978-1054) - statesman, grand prince of Kyivska Rus.

Karpenko-Kary Ivan Karpovych (real surname Tobilevych; 1845-1907) - playwright, actor, director, prominent theatrical figure. One of the initiators of the Ukrainian theatre.

Kadeniuk Leonid (1951) - 1st cosmonaut of the independent Ukraine.

Dovjenko Olexandr (1894-1956) - writer, film director. Laid foundation for Ukrainian cinematography.

Volodymyr Svyatoslavovych (?-1015) - grand prince of Kyiv (reigned in 980-1015) Completed the process of unification of the Eastern Slavic principalities into Kyiv Rus. Introduced Christianity as a state religion.

Lysenko Mykola (1644-1709) - composer, pianist, pedagogue, chorus conductor, prominent public figure. Creator of the Ukrainian Classical Music.

Mechnykov Illya (1845-1916) - biologist, one of the creators of embryology, comparative pathology, immunology and microbiology. Formulated theory of phagocytosis, investigated problems of immunity, inflammation, Infectious Diseases. For discovering phagocytosis (1882) was awarded 1908 Nobel prize.

Andriy Shevchenko - famous soccer (football) player, used to play for Dinamo Kyiv but later started playing for the Chelsea club.

Ani Lorak - famous singer, participated in the Eurovision for several times with very good results, famous all over the world.

Ruslana - the winner on the Eurovision 2004 with her Wild Dancing, popular singer.

Victor Yushchenko - president of Ukraine 2005-2010.
