Part of the cause of 'air resistance' (technically referred to as 'drag') is the friction between the surface of the object moving through the air and the air it is moving through, however a far greater component of drag is caused by pressure variations created by the shape of the object passing through the air.

The reason that a Golf ball has all those dimples on its surface is to allow the air to flow around it more freely. There is more surface area (an automatically therefore more friction) between the dimpled ball and the air, but because the dimples allow the air to flow more smoothly around the ball, the pressure differential between the air in front of the ball and the air behing the ball is reduced, so the dimpled ball can go farther than a smooth ball of equal weight under equal launch conditions.

Air friction is an example of fluid friction that is velocity dependent. It is caused by objects moving at high speeds through the air, and the air resisting it.

The friction like force caused by air resistance is called drag. A greater component of drag, however, is the pressure variations created by the shape of the object passing through the air.

"air resistance"

The resistance caused by moving one object against another?

The answer is Friction

Is friction caused by gravity?

No, friction is caused by the electrostatic attractions between atoms on contacting surfaces and physical surface irregularities. Gravity has no effect on friction.

What force is caused by friction between the air and the surface of an object?

The force is friction. In aerodynamics the frictional force of air resistance is commonly called "drag".Drag.Those are viscous forces.

Is sliding friction caused by the attraction between two surfaces?

Yes. Without sliding friction or rolling friction, we would not be able to walk. It is the relationship between gravity, friction, and mass.

The most friction is caused by the rubbing between objects that are?

Friction between objects that are stationary is called what?

The friction between two stationary forces is called static friction. It is the friction that resists two objects to start moving against each other. Once in motion, the friction between two forces is called dynamic friction. Static friction tends to be greater than dynamic friction, which is why it takes more force to get a heavy box moving along the ground compared to keep it going.

How is rolling friction caused?

What causes friction between 2 objects?

Friction is caused by the interlockings that are present between the two bodies in contact due to the irregularities of the surfaces. Greater the interlocking greater is the friction.

Is sliding friction caused by attraction between two objects?

Yes! :)

What is a sentence for friction?

It is friction that allows the brakes to work. The friction between the two was not helped by the competition. The heat in the bearings was being caused by the friction due to a lack of lubricant.

How does friction influence?

Friction is caused when objects or substances bump into each other. When you swim you create friction between you and the water which is called Fluid friction. Better yet look it up
