They are nocturnal but you will often find them after a good rainfall. They dislike the cold and hibernate during winter. They cover their bodies with a thin layer of mucus which prevents them from drying out. Sometimes snails are also able to hibernate in the summer to survive if they are faced with a severe drought. They live off of the stored up fat during this time of year. They have to live in places where there is a lot of calcium in the soil otherwise their shells become weak and break easily. Garden Snails can go as fast as 65 feet an hour and are the fastest species of snail in the world. They have no ears and cannot hear so they rely on their sense of touch to interact with each other. Snails can live as short as 5 years or as long as 25 years. In captivity they can live longer due to their needs always being met. They can be found in parks and gardens. Snails also inhabit woods, hedgerows and dunes. Snails are very strong and can lift up to 10 times their own body weight in a vertical position. They are able to adapt to a variety of living conditions and they don't require large amounts of food.

Garden snails eat a lot of vegetables. I only feed my captive garden snails lettuce and carrots, but I find that they like lettuce a bit better. I am sure they will eat almost all vegetables!
Snails naturally adapt to gardens because it is in their nature. It may take a while but they will naturally adapt.

Giant African Land Snails (or GALS) get much, much bigger. Garden snails are legal to have in the USA but it is illegal to keep GALS in the USA. GALS serves as a major crop problem but most all Snails (if not all snails) make great pets!
Well i have some garden snails as pets and i put them in a fish tank so if you buy a fish tank then you can put them in there thanks for the question! xXx holly

I've already answered a similar qst. Jst type in : How do snails make more snails and u'll find my answer.
They are known as garden snails!
Snails can be kept as pets.
Oh yes, it is quite possible! In fact, I am taking care of them currently right now! I think they are pets for beginners, and are quite easy to take care of. If you are in a family that cannot really take care of any big pets like cats and dogs and stuff (just like me) I suggest that you take care of garden snails. They're even free! Go out on a rainy day and collect them from merely your front or back yard! Just feed them green leafy vegetables like lettuce or carrots. You can interact with garden snails a lot too, if you can tolerate their harmless slime (just remember to wash your hands after). If they get used to being captive and you touching them, they soon won't even shrink into their shells when you touch them and will crawl all over you! I suggest that you take care of garden snails as pets, and it is VERY possible to have garden snails as pets in the first place.
