In the 1950s, the national average price of a gallon of regular gasoline ranged from 27 cents to 31 cents per gallon. The average price of gasoline did not rise above the 30 cents range until 1974 when the average jumped from 39 cents in 1973 to 53 cents in 1974.

Gas was anywhere from .04 to .19 per gallon during the 40's there is a site that allowes to pay similar prices IT FOR REAL if you Google ".06 per gallon pay 1940's prices for gas"
