Chemistry is everywhere, and we use all the time in our daily lives, probably without knowing it.

Here are some things that wouldn't be possible without the field of chemistry.

No plastic. That's no plastic bags, no CDs or DVDs, no iPods, no plastic silverware or plastic cups and plates, no scotch tape, no styrofoam, no synthetic fabics (like nylon, fleece, rayon, and kevlar). Most of your car is made of plastic too. hello

No gasoline. No driving fancy cars!

No pharmaceuticals. Modern medicine wouldn't exist. No aspirin, no pain killers!

No water purification. Drinking water would make you sick half the time. Most of sewage treatment is done using chemistry.

No synthetic fertilizers. Farming and food production wouldn't be nearly as productive and starvation would be a massive problem. Insecticides are also made by chemists.

No paint. No cosmetics. No processed foods. No air conditioning. No refrigeration. No soap and cleaning products. No Photography. No televisions. No radios. No computeres. No glue. No batteries. No electricity in your house.

There's probably nothing you've done today that wasn't made thanks to chemistry. You'd pretty much have to go back to living in a cave to get away from it!

You know, you probably wouldn't even be alive if it wasn't for chemistry. Chemical reactions are happening every second in your body, keeping you alive (and sane!). Chemistry doesn't make our lives easier, it makes thempossible.

Dmitri Mendeleev was a Russian chemist who formulated the Periodic Law and created his own version of the Periodic Table of elements.

Carl Wilhem Scheele was a German-Swedish pharmaceutical chemist.

Jons Jacob Berzelius was a Swedish chemist who worked out the modern technique of chemical formula notation.

Joseph Proust was a French chemist, noted for his work in defining the law of definite proportions.

• Galileo Galilei.
• Galileo Galilei was an Italian scientist who is often referred to as the father of science. He has an extensive list of contributions that he made to science around 400 years ago. These include the refinement and innovation to the telescope which resulted in him being able to look deeper into the constructs of space.

  Furthermore, Galileo invented one of the first ever thermometers in 1593. It was compromised of various objects submerged in water and contained in a glass cylinder. Each object had a different weight and would react to any fluctuations in the temperature by rising to the top or sinking to the bottom of the container. He was also a very wise and talented mathematician.

• Louis Pasteur.

Louis Pasteur was a French microbiologist and famous chemist who was the first to create and administer a vaccine. He created the first ever vaccine for rabies and anthrax as well as making the discovery that a deactivated virus could in fact strengthen the body if it were to be exposed to it. He was also responsible for discovering the process of pasteurizing milk, hence the term 'pasteurization'.

• Alexander Fleming.

Sir Alexander Fleming was a Scottish biologist who made the discovery of the very first antibiotic - penicillin. He received a Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine award for his work alongside his fellow scientists Howard Florey and Sir Ernst Boris Chain who aided him in this discovery.

• Marie Curie.

Marie Curie was a French scientist who was the first person to ever win two Nobel Prize awards; one in the field of physics and one in the field of chemistry. She conducted innovative and astonishing research into radioactivity and eventually used this research to be the first to ever treat cancer with radiation. She also responsible for discovering two chemical elements; radium and polonium
