"Anthem", the second fiction book by Ayn Rand, was more of a poem, quite short compared to her other writings. It described a future dystopic collectivism from the point of view of an individual who refused to follow the rules.

The contrast was thus between the protoganist who represented individualism, freedom and creativity and the State which represented collectivism, slavery and stagnation.

In "Anthem," good is represented by individuality, freedom, and knowledge pursuit, while evil is depicted through collectivism, restriction of freedom, and suppression of knowledge. The protagonist Prometheus embodies goodness by seeking personal growth and challenging oppressive societal norms, while the collectivist society represents evil by stifling self-expression and progress. Ultimately, the struggle between good and evil in the novella is a battle between the individual's quest for personal fulfillment and the society's desire for conformity and control.
