Here are some hadith (sayings)of the prophet Muhammad peace be upon Him taken from the book of Bukhari:

  • "Feed the hungry, visit the sick,& set free the captives"
  • "The sun & the moon do not eclipse because of the death or life (i.e. birth) of someone from the people but they are two signs amongst the signs of Allah. When you see them stand up & pray"
  • "Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His slave than anyone of you is pleased with finding his camel which he had lost in the desert. "
  • "There is none amongst the Muslims who plants a tree or sows seeds, and then a bird, or a person or an animal eats from it, but is regarded as a charitable gift for him"
  • "Help your brother, whether he is an oppressor or he is an oppressed one. People asked, "O Allah's Apostle! It is all right to help him if he is oppressed, but how should we help him if he is an oppressor?" The Prophet said, "By preventing him from oppressing others."
  • "Oppression will be a darkness on the Day of Resurrection."
  • "I and the person who looks after an orphan and provides for him, will be in Paradise like this," putting his index and middle fingers together

Why is the hadith?

Hadith is the Arabic word for "saying". Hadith is the saying of the prophet Muhammad PBUH & we Muslims are commanded by Allah in the holy Quran to obey the prophet & to follow all His Sunnah. An authentic Hadith is important because it has a command or a recommendation or a prohibition from the prophet Muhammad PBUH & we must obey Him since obeying Him is actually an obeying of the Creator, Allah.
