The discovery of man-made nuclear fission has contributed negatively. The sun has contributed positively. The atomic waste has polluted radiation into streams, oceans, skies, and earth. Radiation causes cancer and death in humans and all creatures. The radioactive waste spread through atomic bombs, atomic energy, and hydrogen bombs have half-lives of billions of years. So parts of earth will be highly radioactive until the end of earth's time in the solar system.

Although we can harvest energy from nuclear fission, the solution to our energy crisis is not to get more energy. It is to use our sources of energy more wisely. for example, the sun is man's god-given source of energy, but do we need to sit in our homes on a nice sunny day under fluorescent lighting, whereas we could sit outside under the natural light of the sun? We already have light, we just need to use it.
