∙ 13y agoNo. The "lower limit of normal" is 150,000 so at 103k you have a "low platelet count" which should be followed up by your doctor, but it's not acutely concerning. It may actually be normal for some individuals, as the normal range of 150-400k is statistically determined. A low platelet count does not become clinically significant until it gets down to around 50,000.

Yes, My platelet count was 421 thousand before my splenectomy. One week after removal it was at 2.1 million. Two weeks after my platelet count was at 2.4. My doctors are hoping that it will come down on it's own, but as it looks right now I will have to be on medication to reduce my platelet count.
