Ultraviolet light sterilizes anything by killing the germs on it. In my science class we use them on our googles to make sure we don't have anyone else's germs. Also in resteraunts the might be put infront of the mouths of a trash can for that same reson. Ultra violet kills germs.

Instruments can be sterilized several ways by using an autoclave(pressure and steam) dry sterilization, chemicals and radiation.
